It appears the parent company RPUI will still stay separate, it's only the PUI interior division that was sold: https://rpui.com

I think Classic gobbled up Eckler's that had bought Late Great Chevy . I think they are going to be one of the big players in the repop/restoration world.

the parts place has so much potential...
they make some great parts that fill cavities in the hobby - but they are generally so cheap... If making something that looks like a GM part, why not spend a bit more, and give your clients something that is on par with GM quality. I mean you've already tooled up for it, why cheap out on the material being used - just to save a tiny bit. There's a reason why so many go nutty over NOS-GM parts, nothing comes close.

If you met some of the owners of the companies who make these parts you will see quite quickly they would far rather stuff the money in their own pocket instead of making OEM quality parts.

I hope not. I worked with them pretty closely to get bench seat covers made for my tempest. No one else was willing to put in the work for it. It took a long time but they came through for me.

Never again w/Parts Place (for me)… Hit or miss with parts - e.g., the front lower air dam for ‘69 Bird is garbage and their repro ‘69 T/A front fender extractors are useless. Trying to get a credit sorted out was a nightmare. Finally left ~$25 on the table, but wasn’t worth the bs dealing with them any longer. Confirmed - yes TPP bought by Classic Industries. May not be a big company eating up the smaller ones as much as the smaller companies may be on the verge of failure with a sale to save them.

This. I know a guy who owns a large and successful parts company, and a few years ago he went to look at the books as a potential buyer. Said he would not touch it. |

We the people buy the garbage folks manufacture. Why should the reproduction companies be held to a higher standard. I'm amazed at the number of folks that buy crap from Walmart, Harbor Freight and Speed Master on their Black Friday specials, but yet they bitch about the quality of their grille emblem. Playing the percentages, I'm guessing most the folks don't exactly knock it out at their own job either.
So is a Speed Master intake manifold a piece of crap only when it's full price? Does it become better quality when it's 40% off. How 'bout the Parts Place aluminum intake... Is it a better part if it's forty percent off .... No one needs to buy a reproduction manifold. They're easily obtained, just not for the price the PP sells them for. Just a few random thoughts fwiw. |
