Default how hard is it to replace the transmission parking pawl replacement

My son's 77 Lemans doesn't have park. The previous owner broke the parking pawl in it. So it moves while in park. How hard is it to replace the parking pawl in his TH350?

Thanks

Tim

I did it to my 69 GTO in the early 70's in the parking lot of the apartment I lived at. I don't remember the details, but it was pretty straight forward. Change the fluid and filter while the pan is dropped.

Being the car sat for 20 years a trans fluid change is a given.

Now for the big question. Where do I find the replacement part?

I doubt you will find it locally. Google transmission and transmission parts to find companies who supply parts. There are numerous, as well as listed in Hemmings.

When I needed a transmission part (TH350 or TH400), I always went to one of my local Transmissions shops (AAMCO, Cottonman, etc.). Most were very cool and would sell me parts I needed when I was rebuilding a trans for one of my cars. As a side note, I ended up always going to AAMCO because I got to know the guy who was the main rebuilder. He taught me a lot about automatic transmissions and was a good guy!
