Default Interesting 74 Manual Trans 74 Lemans SC for sale on MI C/L

I do not know anything about the car but it does not look to bad for the $3000 OBO asking price. Seller lists it as a 77 but it looks to be a 74 to me. 400 Manual trans, A/C car with the gauge package with Tach

Car could be 73-75 The hood is off a 73 has cowl vents one year only. Looks to be a74-75 , grill is 74 tails lights could be 74-75 , best toget serial number that will tell you for sure. If it's a 77 could have been wrecked and put back together with a bunch of years parts, serial number is the ticket and PHS services. Rear quarters don't look to be cut so I say a74-75. SORRY my mistake 74 did have cowl vents as well . Long day don't know what in talking about time to go home.

The body looks pretty unmolested to me, but needs drivetrain pictures and phs. There were only 833 400/4-speed A-bodies in 1974.

I agree on almost all points, I believe the hood vents were a running change in the 74 Model year, I have seen quite a few 74's with and without the cowl vents, no 75's with the cowl vents though (originally) If anyone is interested I can check it out, I work about 1/2 hour from its posted location.

Jeff I talked with the guy today tried him yesterday and left a message never got back to me, he doesn't know much of anything about it. Belonged to a friend of his, he has had it for a few years, but never did much with it. It runs, said he had it running last fall had a mechanic friend put a carb. on it or something so need to check and see if it's the original or if he kept the original and he isn't sure if it's a 3 or 4-speed? Said it had issue's with the linkage and he didn't think it was original? Maybe it's the Inland style shifter as they alway's had issue's. If you can call him and check it out for me let me know?

Thanks Lyn.

When's the last time you heard a novice call a Pontiac 400 a small block though? As information challenged this guy seems, it could very well have a SBC in place of an original I-6.
X2 that it doesn't appear to be a frankenstien car.
I love the color.

I say the shifter looks more like a typical 3-speed issue.
It's definately not the same as the early Grand Am 4-speed shifters.

Lyn, I will see what I can do, I give him a call this afternoon.

As for the car did they offer a Tach with the I-6 engine? I have never seen or heard of that combo. Sight unseen I would bet it was originally a 350 3-speed car, but I will not know for sure until I get a chance to actually look at it. It could have been ordered by a disappointed GTO Fan who knows? The are its at is only about 45 minutes from were it was probably built, a lot of Pontiac employee's lived in that area back in the day.

Yeah Jeff the way he described it I didn't figure there was much use asking any more questions when he couldn't even tell me if it was a 3 or 4-speed? Hopefully a look at the core support will tell part of the story and the linkage if you can see it? It did run at least last fall and he said he put in a new battery. Let me know what you find out!

Thanks Lyn.

Yes you are correct. The 833 M20 option would include 350 with the Saginaw 4 speed. I wonder if the shifter is Hurst with the flat indentations? I believe the Inland shifter handles didn't have this.
This might mean later production. More info is needed.

Depending on whether it's a 74 or 75 it could have the new style Hurst shifter & handle as this one doesn't have the knob that says lift on it & doesn't have the ring that you do lift , It still can be a 3- or 4 speed. But if it's a 75 it won't have the junk inland shifter as Pontiac stopped using them on all 75's. SO ??

Jeff, hopefully the body is better than it looks and it's a 400-4-speed?

Thanks Lyn.

Ok I was able to look at the car for a few Minutes on Friday, the VIN Starts 2F37M4A

So that makes it a 1974 Lemans Sport Coupe Built in Atlanta GA with a 350 2bbl single exhaust engine. The seller believes the car was originally an Automatic car, and I tend to agree. I could not get the engine block code as it was to faint.
The good points are the car had a 4-speed Muncie with all the shift linkage and back drive linkage in it, has a Hurst Shifter in it. The engine starts runs idles and sounds like it has a lot of cam in it, also does not smoke. The car has a Factory Gauge Package, a new Holly Carb, New battery, new exhaust, and 4-tube Coated headers on it. It comes with a used 3.23 posi Axle, a rear sway bar with brackets is in the trunk, along with a replacement passenger side sport mirror.
The Body, Floor boards and trunk floor and frame are solid. The body has what looks like original Paint, never looks like it was in a major collision. The rear 1/4's and front fenders need work both are bad southern rust (not bad for Michigan) The bottom pinch welds on the doors are starting to go, they have heavy surface rust. Hood and trunk look OK, Bumpers and fillers are OK. Battery tray is shot, almost not there. Interior is rough,

Lyn I will post some picture's soon when I get some time. A lot of good parts, but is it worth $3000? Maybe. The pedal is on the floor so figure a complete brake overhaul, and the shift linkage is jambed in 1st so I could not drive it.

As someone who has had a car require being towed 3 times due to the shifter jamming between gears, this is super frustrating and my be why he's selling it.

That said, a 4 speed setup with a not-very-rusty car that you can drive should be worth $3000 all day.

Sounds like it may be an OK car to put back to a good driver or a complete restore. It is probably worth the $ 3000.00 but I would hit him at about the $ 2500.00 price 1st to see if he will bite on it. Form the sounds of it it can be a good car with some work but it will cost a bit to get it right.
