Default 68 Dash Pad w/AC

Got my hands on a dash pad for my resto....not original. Looked great, painted up and started assembling. The openings for the vertical deflectors are not large enough. The trim pieces don't fit in the openings. Anyone see this before? How can I fix....hate to think it needs to be cut larger?

Is it an OEM dashpad? They fit really tight and you have to squeeze them in carefully.

Unfortunately not....it looks fine, just not as robust. I have two old originals and the trim fits fine. The openings are clearly smaller (almost 1/4”) in both directions...ugh!

Where did you get the dashpad from? I’ve tried just about every repro out there, some required careful trimming. The worst was a urethane repro about 15-20 years ago. I also had a dash cap, that one went on no trimming needed.

Here’s some of my recent experience with the repro pads...

The old urethane one I had to hog out is in this thread:

My 14 year old 68 AC DASHPAD repop is all good EXCEPT the 3 Vent openings are not capable of Vents having a good result. I put Speaker grill cover on and it is good.

I ended up with Just Dashes, but the second repro one I had fit a lot better than the first. The vent area on the first one were pretty bad, I complained to the manufacturer and got a revised pad that worked better. I think I still have the good one stored up in the rafters...
