Ford Axle Bearing Housing End is based on Axle Bearing Size (Outer Diameter).

Looks like you are correct.
Here's where im measuring from.

You can press your bearing on this axle as long as the ID is the same ..

I cannot use them.... quote from Moser "Yes there are big ford bearings for 31 spline axles but no they cannot be used with an axle that was made for small bearing the bearing seats are not the same and location of the bearing on the axle is not the same"

I originally ordered my 9" housing from Jim Butler with the "Big Ford Bearing Housing ends. I later decided to install the Explorer Rear Disc Brake Kit, It uses a Torino Bearing housing. Axles and Big Ford Bearing axles fit the Torino ends perfectly.

So to me that says that the Small Bearing 31 spline axles are unique to that housing.

Learn something new every day. Thanks ponjohn and Charlie.

I guess there talking about the location (where the bearing sits/ends up after pressing it on) from the bearing to the axle flange is further or closer.. ??

Probably because of the housing end offset.

You would think you could put a spacer under the bearing to adjust that. If you had to go the other way you could machine the axle back maybe ? Who knows...
