Default Best Repop 77-81 Shaker Hood

K, so AMD, OER, Dynacorn, and GoodMark make repop shaker hoods. Any differences? Is there one that's actually better than the others or the 'best'?

I can’t speak to that year hood. But I did buy a 68 hood from AMD this year and I’m very happy with that. I know it’s not the same. But if they can make the 77-81 as well as mine, I think you’ll be happy.

Have heard good stuff about AMD, but no issues with others as well. Mixed info, so was asking so I don't get caught up in it.

Do all of the re sellers actually make their own hoods? I was under the impression that for most of the aftermarket body parts there was a single manufacturer in a far away land that all of the vendors would market.
BUT, I too would like to know if one is better than the other, I may be in the market for one if I cant find a good used piece.

I know at least AMD and Dynacorn make them, pretty sure GoodMark makes their' own too. So that's 3 different ones. OER I think are Dynacorns, but can't say for sure.

That's kinda why I'm asking, see who has first hand knowledge.

I'll have to go and check the brand of the one I bought a few years ago when they first came out. Going to swap it on the 81 in place of the Turbo hood.

And that one is good? Fit and all? I heard some had an issue where they were kind of 'flat', and the center lines were not very sharp? I haven't looked at the later ones, so I really can't remember. (this is for a friend)

I was going to say what Kerry said, but have no knowledge of hoods or panels. Just that many manufacturers use the same items rebadged.

I'll try and pull it out and take a look. When I first got it a cursory look it looked good.

What's up with the wiring? You get that sorted out?

Still messing with the bypass switch. Grounding switch to temp sensor for a manual on. Works great when I jump between terminals but not when I ground it anywhere even to the battery! Baffling. I did pull the hood box out yesterday so I will get a picture side by side with a factory hood for you.

There are not different sets of dies for this hood. As such, when you blow your $$$ on such a piece of reproduction sheetmetal, you're getting a hood out a certain die lot, that's it, not some entity's specific product.

It will be really tough to tell what you have until it’s assembled on the car. The gaps can be way off. Supposedly the newer produced stuff is better, I’ve been told. I agree with Roger, though.

So aftermarket companies buy the old dies, and, there are multiple dies. There's also multiple factories. So it is possible to have more than one aftermarket company that repops these, or other panels.

At least that's my understanding.

True too that you won't really know until you get it installed, but others have installed and can provide feedback on their' efforts.
