Question Mini starter with Ford solenoid

I've read the posts relating to the above titile, but still unsure of wiring issues?
My starter only has the S post and the main post on the starter solenoid, it does have a stud for the R wire but is on the starter body covered.
If using the wired diode (I'm using a points distributor) to this post, does it go up to the Ford solenoid to the"I" post of continue to the original wire up to the ignition switch??

If you have a firebird, the wire from R (usually yellow) should go to the + side of the ignition coil. That provides ignition power during cranking. If the "I" terminal of the Ford-type starter relay has 12 V on it when the relay is energized during cranking, you can connect a wire from the "I" terminal to the ignition coil positive terminal to accomplish the same function.
