heads: alum or iron
since keepin the head sealed is one of our biggest problems at what point do you need the flow of the alum head vs the strength of the iron?
say hypothetically on a 4.5" stroked tall deck with a 4.350" bore. e85 and twin 70somethings. can you force enough air through a 270cfm port to feed this size of an engine at say 65-7000 rpms? this would go into a strip car that will be street driven. isnt there a 65(?) gto on here with twins and iron heads? anyone have a name/link? thanx kevin |

It all depends on how much power you want?? You can go pretty fast with crappy heads and a turbo.

If your goal is 1500 or less on e85 you dont need alot of cylinder head to get there. On the other hand DocsTA(a.k.a. Bankbook) is well over 4000 lbs went low nines at 150(maybe +/- 1 ) well under 10 psi with ported cv1's on his 535. Turbo69bird has been high nines with a cast crank good rod/piston 455 with stock 6H heads and a performer intake. I think around 3200 lbs. Anyway a 535 will easily make 1100 hp with heads that flow similar to edelbrock performer heads. (and likely under 6000 rpm) A pair of 72mm turbos typically are capable of 1800-2000 HP worth of airflow and depending on its compressor map handle half as much at modest boost pressures. There are alot of variables... having a goal in mind...IE performance level, hp level and overall intentions help us steer you in right direction. Dont forget you have to have the capability to make use of the power too. My engine build will make more power than I'll be able to fully use for a long time... so I'll be running with the wick turned way down from what it will show on the dyno. But thats what makes turbo power so sweet. I fully intend to drive my car to Norwalk and other events make passes and drive home. May go dual fuel capability and run a pump gas tune for long distance runs or when E85 isnt available. There is alot of sound advise in recent and past threads here in the boost section. Let us know what you want to do with that 535. Even in mild tune a 535 turbo'd is going to make a bunch of power. They certainly make a bunch of torque too. |
