Default Chrome Pushbuttons on 68 GTO AM/FM Radios?

Or do they come with black ones?

My habit was to put nice chrome pull tabs on the GTO radios. Did NOT, could NOT do that with Firebirds.

Now, i run a DELCO faceplate with night lamp as a radio delete plate.

68 black buttons = am radio

68 chrome buttons = am/fm radio

I bought a 68 am/fm chrome button radio some years ago when I first started getting back into the Pontiacs. Both of my 68’s had am radios only but thought I might one day put the am/fm in.
I went to look at it again when I saw this thread and remembered I was told by someone that a 68 A Body had black buttons whether it was am/fm or am only so I figured I must have a big car radio.
2 questions, are there identifying numbers I should be looking for to make sure it’s a 68 A body radio? And also how do you flip the display from am to fm. I thought is was a combination of pressing buttons but no luck.
Thanks.

The FM Stereo has push buttons that are labeled AM - FM on the ends. The FM Mono has a selector dial behind the tuning knob labeled AM-FM
IIRC the B body AM-FM has a heatsink is mounted to the side of the radio. The A body AM-FM has the heat sink mounted to the back of the radio, This is done to clear the heater controls on the 68 A body.

I think they have the same mounting Scott.

Many years ago I used the 68 B body FM radio in my GTO by moving the heat sink to the rear of the radio. It bolted right up.

This is a photo of a B body stereo unit. Same mounting location as the A body.

Thanks for all the numbers and info but I guess I got skunked when I bought it. Caveat emptor right? Looks to be from B body.
The display does roll over to am and fm but I had no knobs on the stems and forgot how. So thanks for that info.
I planned on putting radio in an uncut bezel and would either gut the radio and have modern components put in it or just have it non functioning just for the stock FM look. Don’t usually listen to radio in either convertible.
Hopefully OG68 is correct that stem spacing is the same and it will fit.

Still kicking myself for tossing a '68 AM/FM in the dumpster in the mid-90s. D'oh!

Stem spacing is the same. '67 or '68 Pontiac B series AM-FM multiplexes can be built into '68 GTO AM -FM multiplexes with correct side panel,,buttons swapped on '67 units, & correct small heatsink, it's been done.
