The first Pic is a water temp switch, for a warning light or emission devices. Maybe TCC since this is a 72.
The second Pic is a water temp sender. This is for the gauge in the dash.

It is for the Transmission controlled spark(TCS) system. Are you going to use that system? You will have a plug in your harness for it.

Both would have it from the factory. the component that changes would only be at the trans.

Auto and stick both had switches that worked with the extra temp switch in the head. Along with a handful more gadgets, wires, vac hoses.. that controlled vacuum going to the vacuum advance on the distributor.

This would be an all or none deal for me.

Automatic had a switch that would trip at 38mph, a manual had a switch for 4th gear. Being you switched to a 4spd. Does the 4spd you got have a switch in the side cover where the shift levers attach?

Yes, the harness should connect to that switch. That switch should be grounded unless the transmission is placed into 4th gear.

TCS, Temp controlled Spark. You do NOT want or need this working on your car. More things to go wrong and it was not designed to work with fuel that burns hotter, and advances that are more advanced than stock.

It doesn't allow additional advance, it does just the opposite. It removes advance by turning the vac advance off unless conditions are met. If the system is disconnected, it will leave the vac advance working all the time. That's not a bad thing, but if your goal is to have the car work as it did from the factory (to factory specs) you would hook it up. It is an emission control device.

Saying that, the engine will run better with it disconnected. Disconnecting it from any electrical connection will turn the system off.
