Default Best way to make taillights brighter

At night they are fine but during the day I run my park lights just like daytime running lights and you can't tell they are on at all. You can see the brake lights but they aren't stellar. Anything I can do to make these bulbs brighter?

If the inside of the light (around the bulb) is dull then sand it with fine sandpaper and paint it white. Almost as good as the original chrome plating. Switch to LEDs although you will have to get a different emergency flasher. The low voltage of the LED will never trip the flasher.
Clean or replace the sockets for the bulbs. Corrosion makes them dim too.

Fluorescent paint works really good on wore out/dull reflectors.

If new bulbs aren't bright like they should be......old wiring and poor connections would be highly suspect.

Another reason for needing a multi meter!

These are Putco Plasma Red LED's from Summit Racing.
They are expensive- you can find much cheaper on eBay, etc. but they have a lifetime warranty, don't come with instructions in Chinese, etc.

I need to reduce the running light voltage a bit so they'll be a bit dimmer, as I feel people will think they're brake lights the way they are.
Oh, they are INSTANTANEOUS when you touch the brake pedal ON... OFF.... ON....

The other tricks mentioned:
1) Clean and paint the inside of the housing bright white or bright silver.
2) Clean the lens inside and out.
3) Make SURE you have a GOOD GROUND!!!
4) Measure your supply voltage- should be above 12.8V.
5) 2357 lamps- MUCH brighter than stock.

If you've ensured all the above, you'll have BRIGHT lights!
If that's not enough, go to an LED lamp or bulb.

Is there any issue with the 2357 being too hot and melting the lens?

With painting the housing white, do you need to use a high-temp paint or will any bright white work?

This is on a 68.

On my old 68 LeMans (GTO tail lights), I painted the inside bright silver (any can of spray paint is fine), and added 2357 bulbs.
I discovered these in the early 90's- my 88 T/A had them instead of 1157's that I was use to. I started putting them in all my rear 1157 sockets after that- I never have had an issue with them drawing too much current or melting lens... BUT your GROUND must be good!! Bad grounds are the number 1 cause of poor lighting.
On my old 68, I scraped a section of metal on the rear bumper mount to bare metal. Then I ran my ground to it-- had 13.1+ volts back there-- SUPER bright tail lights.

I went to LED'S in my trans am and am really happy with the brightness. I did swap out the flasher. I also like the fact that they are practically instant on as soon as you hit the brakes. Full brightness is a lot faster than a standard bulb. I changed all of my bulbs to LED. They are brighter and draw less power plus they last a long time and don't really generate any heat. Only downside for me is you cant dim them in the dash.

I've used the aluminum tape (and 2357s)that the HVAC guys do to brighten them up. I've had to add a little adhesive at times to help hold it on some.

Good stuff, I've never heard the 2357 bulb thing. I replaced the taillight harness due to wire splices and it made a crazy difference. Course I made sure the ground was clean when attaching it.

I love my led bulbs, even did the dash lights. Since I added more electronics I like the less amps on my alternator for lights, keeps the important electronics operating well. Plus I added h4 lamps to the front.

Digitails now makes a set of LED tails for the '67 GTO.

You can see them in operation here:
https://digi-tails.com/1967-pontiac-...-taillight-kit

They used my OEM housings as the pattern and I have them installed now but my car is still under repair and offline.
