Are the rear drums on a 62 and a 64 GP the same? Are both 11x2 5x5. ?
Well - not necessarily. And this gets more complicated than you might expect.
Per parts book rear drums are 543124 for 59-63. 64-66 are 9775688. Cant say what the difference is. And then even the shoes are listed as different. 59-63 is 5462870 and 64 is 5465267. 65 and 66 shoes are listed as different than 64 and even different than each other.

For the front the drums are listed as assembled with the hub. So 61 is not the same as 62 but probably only because the 61 had ball bearings and I think the 62 were roller bearings. 62 and 63 are LH 541944 and RH 541945. Drums may be the same. Then for 64 both sides are 541944. But shoes are 59-63 5462868 with 64 being 5465265. And the variations in the shoes cannot be totally explained by the change to self adjusting in 63.

As for the Rock Auto listings when I checked I didn't even see drum listings. And specifications may be questionable anyway. Just for kicks and giggles I looked up the transmission pan gaskets at Rock Auto for the Bonneville with the Hydramatic verses the Catalina with the Roto Hydramatic. And they list the same gasket for both. NO WAY. Need do a better job proof proof reading the listings.

And for rear drums - if you were closer to West Des Moines I would give you a pair off a 61. I'd even throw in the backing plates with cylinders, some oil soaked shoes and an assortment of hardware. I've gone to disc and will never use them. They have been in my basement since I bought the car.

Tons of great info there, thanks! I bought the front drums from Ames so I’m pretty sure I’m good there. I bought the rear drums off Rock Auto that were listed for a 64 GP. They were for 5x5 and 11” but it listed 2-1/2 depth. When they get here I’ll test fit and compare to the old drums. Thanks again.

As mentioned earlier, I have those RA rear drums listed for a 64 on my 62.

The difference I believe is the ones for a 64 are finned and the presumably original ones I removed are not.
