Default MORE INFO ON MY 1964 FACTORY 8 LUG WHEELS TO BOP CONVERSION!

In previous posts I mentioned that I was toying with the idea of putting my factory 8 lugs on the shelf on my 1964 G/P and going with some Torque Thrust wheels. Another member here mentioned that I could get what I wanted from BOP so I investigated.

I called Wade at BOP several times and I felt him out about what I wanted, I thought after careful measurement that I needed a 5" backspace, he talked me out of it and suggested I stay with his standard 4.75 on the 15" rim.at 8" width for the rear, I am going with a 15X7 with the front but don't have those tires or wheels yet to report on.

I have had the wheels for almost 3 weeks, the tires for two weeks (275R60X15 BFG 275 T/A radials) and I pickled them up from my buddy on the way home from work who mounted and balanced them for me and I mounted them tonight on the car.

I also own other cars and one of them is a Prostreet 1967 Chevelle, back-half with coil overs. On that car I have to disconnect the coil overs to let the rear come out of the car enough to mount the wheels and tires. Same with this combo, I had to disconnect both rear shocks with the car on stands and the rear supported with the jack to get those 275 T/A radials in there but they fit!

I have about 3/8" inch from the sidewall to the rear wheel opening and chrome trim but it fits, I had the shocks disconnected so i ran the car through the whole wheel travel motion by pushing down on the trunk and nothing rubs.

Would still like to have the 5" BS but the 4.75 works and is doable, Wade was right. Car has a great stance the 275's in the rear and when I get the 245 T/A tires from Summit (they were ordered at the same time as the 275 tires but I still do not have them) it will be killer.

I have the blackwall side out, would have loved to put a whitewall tire on there as those cars look best I think with white wall tires but this is second best.

Dave

64 Catalina with a 15x8 4.75” BS and 275/60 Nitto drag radials. Fits really good.

I hope you not putting big torque against those aluminum drums with those sticky tires.. You'll rip the studs right out of those drums.. Those Nittos grap hard!

Back in the 60s, I saw that happen to this guy on his beautiful 64 GP. He tore the studs right out of those aluminum drums after installing his first set of M&H slicks..

That Catalina is really nice!!!

We’ll see. Putting in a 455 that should make around 600 ft lbs and 4.10’s now.

As far as mine it is an original 370HP Tri-Power 421 and the only time I have ever had my foot in it was at speed, I respect it too much to take advantage of it!

I treat it like a priceless work of art! Dave

I should know that Cat but I don't remember it, graduated in the early 1970's in Monroeville right outside of Pittsburgh and went to both P.I.D. and Keystone regularly. I do remember the "Loose Papoose" from Penn Hills and was at his house many times, there was also a large Pontiac in my parent's neighborhood of Bethel Park that was a regular at P.I.D. but the car was un-lettered.

Great time to be alive with all that muscle in Pittsburgh! Dave
