Default 17" wheels '65 GP

Will 17x8 wheels with a 4.5 backspace fit on a stock '65 GP with fender skirts?
Tires will be 225 or 235 width. Thanks

Bad move putting a short sidewall tire on the suspension that positive cambers during compression (braking). You'll end up with half the tires contact patch on the pavement.. These cars need thick sidewalls. At least take the alignment out of the 60s and switch the caster to positive and the camber to negative while keeping the numbers the same..

There’s an entire thread on here on what will and won’t fit on the back of a ‘65-‘66 car. I personally have tried both 17x7 4” offset and 17x8 4.25” offset and the 17x8” with no skirts were very, very close to the fender lips. Unusable in my opinion at that offset. I currently have 17x7 4” offset and they fit all of the way around with no rubbing and 235/60/17s with factory drums out back. With my new disk brakes out back I get a small amount of run in a hard corner or in a offcamber parking lot entrance due to the rotors moving the wheel last out about 1/8” each side.

As an aside I have aftermarket tubular upper control arms with taller balljoints and stiffer springs, bushings and sway bars all around so it handles very well.

Very nice 2+2 and the wheels were very tastefully done! Dave
