Default Moog inner & outer tie rods

Guys, trying to get my stuff together this weekend, watched a vid on the how to on tie rod ends replacement...........

Seems i have the right parts, but on the vid the guy put on the inner rod with the zert on the bottom, same as the outer.

I have the zert hole on the bottom on the outer...........nothing on the inner except this hole on the side, im assuming the zert goes there, but there are no threads inside that hole.

Any of you guys run into this.

Thanks

Rich

LOL, one more thing to bring up, Bought the "Parts Place" SU 3470G center link, i take it your not supposed to be able to move the studs /joints by hand are you. ?..I can move one pretty easy the other is tight. Bought this last year, cant find the receipt anyways, sure they wont refund it anyways. Another parts place piece to the trash.

We replaced all of those parts with pieces from RockAuto. Happy with the results and my alignment guy said it was all good as well.
One exception, though. You’re right about the grease fittings being indiscriminately installed with no rhyme or reason for location. We managed to get them greased up somehow. And because it’s not a daily driver we don’t have to worry as much about it. I believe that ProForged or Rare Parts have good center links.

66Sprint...........thanks for the heads up on rock auto, checked today, they are out of stock on the pro-forged center link.

Chrisp...........im thinking im out of luck sending the center link back without a receipt , bought other stuff from them and they wouldnt except them back even with a receipt.

Think what i have to do now is get my stuff off the car and see exactly what i need to get.

Just a follow up on that center link..........are the studs/joints supposed to move one way or the other.

I will check with "Ames" on the center link also...........dont want to bad mouth them, but noticed on some of the stuff ive gotten from them..........says "Parts Place" on them.

The studs are only to rotate , they are not supposed to swivel. Fixed axis rotation only.

Rare Parts not cheap. But I’ve heard nothing but good things about them.

I hear ya there brother..........seeing i already wasted $90 bucks on the parts place special, throwing that in the trash.

Im gonna try to measure my center link this weekend, or take off the link, idlers arm and pitman arm and see what i have for sure, enough of this guessing game.

Pretty sure my pitman arm is a 13/16, saw some old posts where the two different sizes were together, i have that same bump on the arm as in the pic.

I installed the Moog inner & outer tie rods on my '66, with the zerk fitting facing downward on the outer, and facing inward on the inner. Won't be difficult to grease the inners, especially with a 90-degree coupler on the grease gun, but that may not even be necessary.

I also have the ProForged centerlink. Good stuff. Depending on how long it will take Rock Auto to get more of them in stock, you may look to buy one from another vendor. ProForged is sold at many places, including a number of online vendors, plus O'Reilly Auto brick & mortar stores.

Allot of the joints, if they have a provision for a Zerk fitting at all, the hole is not threaded. You use a self taping style of Zerk fitting, usually included with the part. It has tapered threads much like a pipe fitting. Must save the manufacturer a couple cents making each one. Front end parts are really hit or miss now as manufacturers consolidate and Federal Mogul, (Moog) makes parts all over the world with inconsistent quality. Agree that everything I have purchased from RARE parts has been top quality, costing 4-5 times as much as the cheap crap. You get what you are willing to pay for in this case. I now rank Moog overall one small notch above the white box Chinese junk. BTW, NAPA now sells RARE parts for some applications.

In doing tie rod ends on the 81 TA a few years ago The higher quality AC Delco and Raybestos are both made in Taiwan and the bar code in the bag inside the box is the same.

have a bunch of extras I'll sell for cheap when I was comparing!
