OK ... it's been awhile since I posted. So much to do ... so little time ... so little money! lolol

That's OK ... we only live once and this is for Danny so I just don't care. Anyway I wanted to give an update for everyone who has been following this build ... I have learned so much during this project I can't even begin to describe it.

1. All brake lines stainless and custom bent for the new 4 wheel disc brake system

2. Koni Shocks all the way around ... adjustable ... for classic cars ... we'll see ... lol ... I may go with Vikings if these don't work out?

3. Added Tilt Wheel ... rechromed stalks ... the correct short one for the turn signals for a '66

4. Underside ... POR 15 came out great ... probably should have undercoated it as well ... maybe someday ...

5. More underside ...

1. Firewall being set up ... harnesses going in ... all original ... all tested ...

2. More firewall ... NOS Voltage Regulator ... NOS spark plug wires ... all run through looms / brackets as original ... NOS grommets ... NOS regulators mounted on the wall ...

3. The passenger side ... NOS distributor cap ... Petronix Ignition installed

4. NOS oil filter ... NOS oil pressure sender for the rally gauges ... had to get a 90 degree mount for it since the standard mount didn't take the sender/filter far enough away from the factory headers that I added from RARE (originals were the standard logs)

5. Passenger side of the tri power ... I had to get another top plate for the front carb since the one on my original set wasn't correct (I have no idea what happened) but that change allowed for the correct placement of the fuel lines ... also notice the the choke cover isn't stamped correct ... we corrected that with a different unit that I'll post later

1. Driver side ... notice that the Temp Switch for the rally gauge is a blade type connector ... that is the original set-up vs. the slide-over connector that people adapted to later. I wanted to keep as much as original as possible.

Purchased all the correct bracket set ups for the vacuum, fuel lines, etc etc. I was SHOCKED at how much wasn't part of my set up when I purchased the car. It's crazy but it's been a great experience ... learned a lot about the throttle bar, bracket, spring set-up as well ... it is not the same as GTO ... lolol

NOS fuel filter as well ... a/c cars are different fuel filters! lolol

2. The correct choke cover stampings ... repop

3. Fan ... there's discussion on what was original but everything I've read from Pontiac states it was the flat top blades (19.5" 7 blades for a/c cars) so that's what I put on. It came out awesome ... I didn't paint metal that was originally supposed to be metal ... the pieces were cleaned and then covered with Rustoleum Clear coat. We'll see how it holds up over the years. lol

4. Other side ...

5. original Type-2 a/c box restored (there are two types! lol) and calibrated for R-134a ... after careful discussion with the rebuilder AND my friend who is car nut and professional a/c / heating professional I decided to go with the newer coolant and not the original R-12. We'll see if I was advised properly. lol

1. Fenders are on ... inner wells are on ... radiator support is on ... and notice the POA cover ... it's NOS ... got lucky on this board ... never seen another ... I have a bunch of more nice ones I'll sell including repops ... I'll keep one extra for myself ...

2. Better look at the POA Cover ... NOS underhood real-out lamp added ... all hooked up ...

3. Fan hooked up ... rad shroud installed along with a/c hoses ... the rad shroud (I think I posted pictures much earlier) was restored with Eastwood Plastic Restore ... did an amazing job on it AND the front grills (which should be on by next week?)

4. Horns installed ... original ... powder coated with great care so they weren't damaged on the inside ... both the radiator and condenser were restored by a local guy I cannot recommend highly enough ... Ferndale Radiator ... speak to Mel ... Knowledge and reasonable prices ... cannot be beat IMO

5. Another view ... notice the harnesses have been taped up and put in the proper brackets ... I did have an issue that I will ask on a separate post as well ... the upper rad hose sits on top of the alternator? Can that be right or is there another place to get a pre-bent hose for a tripower with PS that will put the hose with space to clear on top of the alternator?

1. Rear end with bumper installed .... looks better in person ... dark garages aren't the best for these types of pictures ... lol

2. Fenders on ... a decent view to see more of what it will eventually look like.

General Info:
Brake lines bled ...
Going to fill the a/c system in a week or so
All electric hooked up in engine bay other than headlights (week or so)
This week coming up the dash will be hooked up ... front bumper put on ... with full headlights, nose, grills (already restored), etc. Should look like a real car in a couple of weeks
Thinking we will try and start the engine ... maybe early March? I have to have it out of the garage by April 1 ... and hopefully ... Lord willing ... drive in on a trailer and take it to my house to finish up what will be left to do. We'll see ... but that's the "plan" ... lolol ... I'm sure God loves to hear what Phil's plans are.

If I can help ANYONE out ... with
a. pics
b. advise based on the multitude of errors I have made already (it's my first time doing anything like this)
c. or whatever

Just ask ...

70ra455,

The car looks amazing! You can definitely see the attention to detail and the time you spent on it. Keep up the excellent work!

Question for you...who did you have restore/rebuild your A/C & Heater box? I have a '64 GP with factory air I'm restoring. Much like yours...not a nut or bolt untouched. I'll need to have the controls on the dash, the A/C & Heater box, etc. restored and replacement parts purchased (my car didn't have a compressor, etc. when I bought it). If you have a recommendation, I would appreciate it.

I used Benny Sanchez out of Texas (Factory Auto Air) ... got him from Facebook. Did an excellent job ascetically (sp?) ... hopefully everything works. Great communications and great shipping/packing.

Will you have a mileage cap or will it not make big trips?

No cap except two considerations:

1. Gas $$
2. Parking/Security

This car will be driven. You live once ... life is way too short and precarious ... no one will die regretting that their classic was driven too much.

Thank you, 70ra455! I've heard of them and will look into when I've ready for my A/C to be redone.

RediRad will be in this car ... the one you sold me in 2016 I believe ... if it works great then the GTO will eventually get it when I do some updates to that.

Phil..........WOW!!! Haven't been here to see how its going in a while, but WOW!!! Truly well done Sir. Any chance you can post an audio clip when the engine is running?
I do have a question though. How is the factory pancake airfilter going to fit over that fuel line? The filter line seems way too high. (routed correctly?)
And the upper rad hose? My '65 came with a 6 inch long extra piece of hose fitted over the rad hose fully encompassing it. The rad hose was laying on my power steering pump mount and the extra chunk protected it. I've seen it on mid 60's full size Ponchos as well.

Hi Phil, hope all is well in your end of the world. Haven't seen any updates on the GP. My own '54 Poncho's motor started hammering, so I parked it and decided after much thought to do what a billion other rodders have done and thats to swap in a SBC. The estimate to rebuild the in-line 8 was $5000 to do all the machine work and final assembly. PLUS, I had to buy the parts. Only kit I could find was $2500 Canadian delivered to my door. So for about $7500 to $8000 I'd have an inline 8 with maybe 125 hp trying to pull a 5500 pound hearse. So for $600 I bought an '86 chebby pickup with a 305 and TH350. Quite the savings I'd say.
Anyway, have a great Thanksgiving Phil.
