1965 Bonneville Safari
My friend bought this 65 Wagon from the original owner. 88k miles. Use to tow a trailer back in the day. Window sticker just under 8K. 389 4 barrel. Other the than the chrome valve covers and a few other things, mostly original! The interior is nice and is a blue/gray color (Fontaine Blue.) Looks like a dealer installed Auxiliary Trumpet Horn.

The 421 was a regular option so I don't think that's the special order item on the window sticker. There are a lot of unusual things on that car (15" wheels, heavy duty frame, full instrument dash, AM-FM radio, etc.) and it looks super clean - hardly any pitting on the pot metal trim at all.

Lots of HD options, but apparently a standard Bonneville engine, 333 HP 389.

What a beauty. Great option list. Very similar to the 66 wagon I had for 19 years. It's interesting to look at the option list at what was really expensive. Power steering, AC, Turbo 400. FM radio were the high cost options. They really crank the final price up from 3600.00 base to almost 6K with all those options. Great car.

(has towing pkg, but no gear choice) But except for maybe the speedo, don't think the gears would have anything to do with Fisher. I also wonder what the 'G' is for in the paint code? Different color green upper color? Don't think it is vinyl top? Very cool wagon.

421 I.D.
Hello Guy's
My understanding. Look at the parting line between the right cyl. head and front of the block. My understanding is that there is a portion of the block that sticks out about 1/2 inch and about as long as the head is wide, that I.D.'s the 421 I have been told, although I have never been able to I.D. one myself. Maybe someone else can give better information on this. Take Care, Dusty |

Look for the engine code on the front of the block, on the passenger side next to the timing chain cover, and then run it through the block ID at http://www.wallaceracing.com/enginesearch4.htm

6K, not 8K, but still impressive when a base '65 GTO was priced around half that.

Very cool wagon!
South Gate factory masked off the data plate as did Fremont in 65. The paint code looks to be HG, but the car shows HC (Cameo Ivory painted top). Sporting 400 valve covers? More pics please! Thanks for sharing, Chris

Yes on the 6K. Opps? Was there a 2 tone paint option? Or did they come that way? I’ll work on some pictures. He’s been working getting it road worthy.
