Default Parking brake cables with Baer or Wilwood

Searched but hadn't found an answer...

Do I need to use universal parking brake cables from the brake to the frame or can I use repop/new cables for my 67 GTO and they will work with either Baer or Wilwood?

I guess i can call both places but thought someone here might have been down this path before.

I don't think Wilwood has any cable-draw calipers for parking brakes, but they do have a separate park brake caliper. They also do a pinion mounted parking brake.

I haven't looked at Baer in a while, not sure what they have. I know they used to use a PBR based or type caliper in the rear that could use OE type cables.

Parking brake cables (OE style) are now made by a number of manufacturers in a multitude of lengths, so that's not a problem. All the intermediate cables and the pedal/cable are also available. All the hardware, hooks, pulls, etc are also available.

You can see the available stuff in the Wilwood catalog, think they have some where they do drum in hat, but I think it's limited. (and not cheap). With Wilwood, it's tough to get 'matching' 'looking' calipers front/rear unless you spend bank on the rears.

Looks at Kore3, they have great kits, modular, affordable, that use OE type parts. They sell in pieces or full kits, not like most who only sell entire kits.

You can always do a RightStuff or similar rear kit, which are very functional, and can match larger front brake kits, but again, it won't match the fronts in 'look'.

When it comes to the fronts, big brake hubs for OE type spindles is not cheap, and if you're going to spend, you would be better off getting like a Speedtech/ATS spindle. Not only can you bolt on OE big brake parts, but you also get considerable improvements in suspension performance.

Keep in mind larger brakes generally require large wheels, so that too is an added cost. If you're not going to accept that you are going to replace wheels, then it's hard to beat OE fronts with add-on rear kits.

Thanks for the info may just have to wait until the brakes are on then do the parking brakes, was just hoping to finish this up while the body is still on the rotisserie. I have used Wilwood on the alcohol car with success, but it was striped of most of the OE parts obviously.

The 67 will have big brakes all around, 18" wheels....sort of a resto-mod pro-tour build I guess. I am currently on hold waiting for all the front end components and shocks from SCC. Been 2.5 weeks and no word yet from Mark on when things will ship. My body guy is getting antsy so we can fit the body and frame one more time to double check the tunnel fit with the TKO.....

Ah, I get where you're at.

Are you using ATS spindles? C5/C6 brakes (rotors, calipers, etc) are a direct fit, so you can order less expensive brake kits. Their' (SpeedTech) control arms are one of the best, they I believe are a slight variation on the GW arms, and with the spindles, is THE suspension kit out there. I wish they were available when I bought my GWs. (I have the #009 of the production ATS/ATX spindles, the GW arms were specifically made for the spindles, Doug & Tyler designed them. I think the Speedtech ones are an improved design of those.

http://www.speedtechperformance.com/...rod/prd136.htm

No need to run tall ball joints or anything, it's all built in.

And it's all in stock.

What I did was, detailed/built out the frame/suspension, dropped the body back on, tossed the engine & trans in, and then shipped it off to paint jail. I slapped the old rotors on so the lug nuts would work, and didn't care about them. Did the brakes and all when it came back.

E-brakes are certainly something you can do when it gets back, and honestly, think they would get in the way at the body shop.

Here's a pic of the rear brakes, PBR calipers, it's basically a '96 SS Camaro setup. Has forward pull cables, used the OE length E cables. I painted them black, and used no-name front C5 calipers, again painted black. I want Wilwoods.

Here's the one I was going to do, in-hat E-brake, forward pull, can use OE type cables, though believe they need to be 2" longer.

Least I've found it for is $1350, which really isn't bad. The matching front kit for the ATS spindle is 140-8922D, and best price I found there was $1380. Best price I found for the factory disc spindle was at least $500 more, because it includes the hub. The ATS spindle uses a vette bearing pack, sealed, and if you push it, you don't have to worry about bearing wear, adjustment, and failures. Anyway, that's a price comparison.

Here's the Baer rear with the drum in hat config, forward pull:

https://baer.com/12-Rear-SS4-Plus-Br...e-4302309.html

$1600.

I was going to do the PRO+ ones, $2450:

https://baer.com/13-Rear-Pro-Plus-Br...e-4302356.html

Matching fronts:

https://baer.com/14-Front-Pro-Brake-System-4301352.html

$2100. That's ATS spindles. For OE disc spindles, $2300:

https://baer.com/14-Front-Pro-Plus-B...m-4301337.html

Kore3 stuff:

Fronts $1450 with drilled and slotted rotors, no-name calipers:

http://www.kore3.com/proddetail.php?prod=10336-03

Rears with in hat e-brake, DBA drilled & slotted rotors, $1590:

http://www.kore3.com/proddetail.php?prod=10277-01

Hope that helps, that's pretty much what's out there, unless you want to step up to Wilwood AERO or Baer Extreme+.
