Is it kind of a foam rubber material? I don't believe there is anything you can do but whatever you do it must be put on very thin.

Use Sem. Wheel must be cleaned and all coating must be taken off, Use they perp and then use their adhesion promoter . I you don't prep right it will peel,

My TA wheel was baby blue; proper prep and SEM made it black - still very pliable and colorfast.

After going through this whole thing, I can note two things:
1) only real leather can be dyed, all others are really just a (proprietary) paint
2) preparation is everything.

I don't know about the material on your wheel, but if it's a molded, skinned foam then I'm not sure if that is an acceptable substrate. That being said, the SEM is a great product for its intended use.

Pretty sure it's not foam. Going to check at walmart for SEM

I doubt Wally World will have SEM.

Amazon is your friend.

Auto body supply houses or good local auto parts stores will carry SEM products.

I've seen many times where once you try to spray/dye them, they start sweating and getting sticky.

It's kind of a crap-shoot when you try to change the color. Better off getting one that's the color you want.

I never experienced the "sticky" part but yes, getting the one you need is a hell of a lot less hassle.

I have an OE 442 wheel on the wall in the garage doing it now, it was a sprayed blue wheel I got off eGay, wasn't aware it was sprayed, and it's sweating and sticky. Seen it before, once it does that it's toast.

You can search here, it's actually more common than one may think.

I have seen sticky, gooey wheels but those were never painted. The one in my Formula Astre (yeah, they made them) turned so gooey, if you touched it, it would be stringy. Yuck!

The original (vinyl) ? wheel in my 69 GTO gets sticky sitting in the hot trailer. Yuck is right.
