Any body guys out there know of a car paint simulator ?
Or some where I can put a picture of my car and look at paint color options on it ??
Looking to get a 70 GTO Convertible painted and want to look at color options other than stock.
Thanks David

Have you checked the Ultimate GTO picture site? There are a couple hundred pics of ‘70 GTOs in different colours. I sometimes just hit Google images “blue 70 GTO” etc and scroll.

That's what I do, look at OE colors, and then choose a color combo that based on those. You can vary the 'shade' and use the original colors as a basis of what it would look like.

Another thing I generally do too is try to pic OE colors that are currently used on cars that are 2-5 years old, which drastically reduces the cost of the paint. Makes it easier to match in the future, in the event you need a repair.

I noticed House of Kolor sells 3D modeling software but I have no idea how well it works but I think you'll be happy to see they have a 70 GTO convertible in their library!! For $80 you get access to one model:

http://hokdigitalpaintbooth.com/

Anyone use it?

A tool like this would allow you to change colors, wheels, trim, etc..

There are also some basic "wheel simulators" that let you swap wheel styles. The color options and realism for the car bodies are weak.. but this one has a lot of Pontiacs in its libraries and is fun to swap wheels:

Performance Plus Wheel Configurator

There are other options for changing the color of a 2D photo. These would not be "easy" for anything other than paint color.

I have used GIMP (like PhotoShop but free) but it's not easy to use.. big learning curve.

A few years back I downloaded a trial version of a tool called "ColorSwap" from a company called PlexityHide. I used it to help a friend visualize an unusual combo of green covertible top on a champagne Firebird. The software worked well but it doesn't look like it's available anymore:

Here's a demo that is fun to play with. No Pontiacs but I had fun changing the color of the Camaro:

I think it looks outstanding in simulated 70 Palisade green. But who doesn't like Palisade green?

Which drastically reduces the cost of the paint.....OH REALLY !!! The paint companies don’t care how old the colors are.....you still have to bend ovah and hold your ankles.

As an example, if you pick a House of Kolor paint, compared to a Dupont paint, or other single stage, yeah, you're going to pay a ton more.

I painted the LeMans in a Dupont Hot Hues color back in like '06, and just for paint, it was $1400+.

https://www.goautopaint.com/products/HotHues

I painted it again just recently, using a caddy color mix by Siemens, and it was like $800. I originally wanted an original Atoll Blue, and that was $1300. I don't know why, but that was the prices I got.

Yeah, paint cost is all over the board. Maybe they just charge more for 'restoration colors'? I dunno, but it is like that. Maybe someone else can chime in with their' experiences.

Pretty sure some offer premixed colors for cars within a 5-7 year old range.

That my one bitch with those Camaros.....is the mis match illusion from the door to the 1/4 panel on the metallic colors...
