Also, Crane has had this same lube hole directed at the roller for years. I believe the size is .030.

Crane has had this "wheel" oiling option for years. It is not an option, but comes already there.

I suspect the groove tool Comp sells would work on a "pontiac" solid roller lifter. They are for the most part like a sbc lifter which can work in a Pontiac application.
And if ordering new I suspect that you could call Comp and custom order their Pontiac part number that has these grooves already in them.

But I'd use a Crower product from habit.

I need to choose to use the Chet Herbert black solid rollers I have or maybe go with Crower. I have heard some negatives on the Herbert/Butler rollers but its unclear if the problem lifters were solid or hyd and in what application.
Who has had good results and who had has problems and under what circumstances? Street? high spring pressure? many passes?
Application for me will be race only. Probably no more than 6500rpm and 650 lift.

Rich,
I used the Herbert lifters and after a short period of time the needle bearings in one failed and the body of the lifter ground the lobe of the cam down. Thats my experience with them. I have used Comp rollers for many years. So far they are still ok.

I have used the JBP lifters in my engine for the last 4 1/2 years without any problems, of course I have replaced them every 2 years and but they have seemed fine, so maybe I have just gotten lucky....I just ordered another set... I had considered buying the comps for the extra $100.00 but when it came right down to it I just did not have the extra money, since I had some unexpected expenses this year ....

And Jack I will get back to you on that e-mail tonight or tomorrow, later

Chad
