Default 1968 Dodge Coronet

Possible?
400 Pontiac into a Coronet. 2-dr, no engine. Body in great shape, no rust, no dents.

Obviously anything is possible. We have torches and we have welders and we have money and imagination. We can do what we want LOL But then I dont like the idea of chopping up a nice car. Some folks dont mind sacrificing old iron for the result they want..
I dont think you will like the way the oil pan and steering/crossmember fits.
As I recall mopar even used a different crossmember for their own small block/big block combos/
In my opinion, esthetically, its a BAD idea, about as BAD as putting a slant 6 in a 64 GTO. Different but why???
Find some Mopar power. 383, 400 or 440 if possible

That's my new favorite quote! Well said!

And your avatar is one of the best!

Thats a youthful quote meant for young people. When we were young we didnt know it wasnt possible so we did it anyway and it usually worked. I wish I still believed it.

Lt. side exhaust will probably interfere with the steering box. On the big blocks, Mopars used lt. side manifolds that looked up-side down because of it.
The other thing that causes a clearance problem with Mopars is the infamous torsion bar front suspension. In the way of headers and starter removal.

You don't want to go there.

I agree. I think you would have some serious custom header work going on there and maybe some fender well modifications. I would stick with a 383 or 440. Tough to beat the sound of a healthy big block mopar.

I had a 69 Roadrunner before I bought my TA. The 383 4bbl made decent power and took ALOT of abuse. Only had to put a clutch and a MC in it for the years in college I drove the snot out of it.

I agree keep a Mopar motor in it. Lots of parts now available for them. Values have jumped up alot too. A friend just picked up a project 68 383 Charger for $7500 this weekend, and alot more he saw were alot more.

I'd go with a 440. A 440 with six pack pistons and #915 closed chamber heads are hard to beat. Mopars have a front sump pan which would kind of be hard to work around with a Pontiac. Nothing wrong with a good running 440.

Mopars are cool too, I agree with the others regarding putting a Mopar back in. Mopar in Mopar, Pontiac in Pontiac Buick in Buick, Ford in Ford and Chevy in the junkyard.

The RB(Raised Block) chryslers are great motors, go with one of those if you can.

The '68 Coronet is a really nice car, probably my favorite B body chrysler, behind the '68 Charger and '71~72 Roadrunner/Satallite/GTX.

My 2 cents....

If you're asking this, maybe its because you dont want to buy another engine for the Coronet. Lack of funds, or whatever reasons.

But modding a Mopar around a Pontiac engine will be costly and time consuming. Do this car a favor and get a used Mopar engine. You can get a running 440 for under 500$..

Would you put a Mopar motor in a GTO? I dont think so

There are some decent aluminum heads for a good price for them out there also. Stroker kits etc.

MOPAR uses different K frames for small and big blocks. What engine was in it? Many coronets had 318s you can go up to a 360 without changing anything if it's a small block car.

It was a 383. Owner decided to keep it. Front sump engines are a pain to work around, so it was just a thought. Just needed to irritate my brother with his non-running `69 383 Satelite. Thanks for the input.
