Has anyone put a mustang 2 IFS under an early Tempest?? Have been toying with the idea for a while. Have been looking at the Fat Man productions setup with power rack & pinion with disc brakes. Anyone?? Comments, thoughts!!

Yes, I'm interested also. I was thinking about putting one in my 63 wagon.

I was looking into the same set-up for my 55. Lots of money$$$. I decided to stay with the stock suspension.
I probaly would have found a doner 74-78 Mustang II or 75-80 Pinto/Bobcat doner car to save some cash and probaly at least want the tubular lower control arms to get rid of the strut rods.

When I had my '63, I ran the stock front suspension for a short time. Then I put a straight axle with leaf springs (the gasser days) under it. The best front suspension that I put in was the last and a relatively easy modification. It was the front from an early Corvair with rack & pinion steering. I used box tubing for spacers between the crossmember and the sub-frame and used the original bolt holes to bolt it up. The only fabrication needed was for brakets for the rack & pinion and to the steering shaft.

I put a rack on mine. I fugured with the wildwood 9" Disk change over there wasn't a lot of gain from the IFS weight wise for racing... The rack goes on fairly easy. Both are front steer. Just add a bracket for a knuckle, Plus I can see those pesky header bolts on the driver side now.

Talking rack and pinion

I've had power Rack and Pinion streering on my 62 from the time I built it in 99. I used 78 ford fairmont rack and fabbed my mounting perch to the front cross member. I also installed disc brakes using Mustang II spindles. No one was into these cars much at the time so I had to do all my front end stuff as I progressed through the building process. The car was in the Dec. 2000 HPP lonestar shootout.
