Nice article. Matches a lot of the info I received in a couple of Fuels and Lubes Engineering classes years ago.

Quite a bit more info on the different anti detonation tools out there like the water meth kits. Thanks.

What most don't understand is you have to add a Pitot Tube to actually measure how much better the car runs on AV gas. If you also add a Altimeter and reset 0 at +2500ft you should not have any problems because the car thinks it's at 2500 feet instead of sea level.

No, no, no. Set it to like -1000 feet and you will pick up some serious HP from the denser air.

That would be for the heads up guys.

Street guys need to be around 2500ft, also need carb heat on and the mixture set rich so not to freeze up.

Pretty much. We ran 100LL in all our fuel trucks. It had to be nearly zero degrees before there were any cold starting problems.

P2V Neptune....2 turnin’, 2 burnin’! An old friend of mine was the crewchief on the Super Connie “Fish” Salmon bought the farm in. The FAA stated the reason for the crash was the pilot’s and co-pilot’s fixation on the fire warning lights( common on Connies and DC-7s during takeoff and climb out) instead of maintaining proper airspeed and altitude. PRTs would glow white hot during full throttle.

Sorry I've been out. Shoulder surgery OUCH!
He said there were 6 valves that were sticking. after I removed the valve debris and reinstalled the head I rolled it over several times and all valves seemed to work just fine. I've decided to rebuild my old but not original engine. He'll pay me back one way or another.
You guys are a wealth of information. Thank Yall

P.S. I had to take the car to his shop shortly after the install because the internal dipstick tube was wrong (couldn't check the oil). At that time he noticed the pushrods were hitting the head and installed longer ones. Could this help in your diagnoses ?

I was wondering the same thing...1.65 ratio rockers in a head that hasn't had the holes elongated? Even so.... longer pushrods?

Bottom line is, the jackleg builder is taking premium money and blaming his fu&kup`s on fuel that he knows nothing about.

How much does a full page article in the local newspaper cost? There is more than one way to split this atom. Let him choose between making it right and you ruining his business.
