Cliff
Thanks for validating my post. I knew that it would be near impossible to screw up a build and end up with only 350 ft/lbs on the dyno... |

I know it is more money but less now than changing directions later:
Why the flat tappet cam? You will have a stroker, 9" rear, 310 cfm heads, and other parts not mentioned. Why not maximize now?

Seriously. For the amount of money being spent, what's another ~$700 (the additional cost of roller over flat)?

I'm using Calvin Hill's bushed solid roller lifters in my 400 street car with a solid roller cam. It's very quiet compared to my old hydraulic roller setup and revs properly too!

Have your machinest grind a vertical groove in the lifter bore, like Paul Carter has illustrated in a dedicated thread and you will have a broader choice of lifters with minimal ticking.

No popcorn needed I have my engine combo picked just gonna pick a similar but stouter roller cam. Got my machinist on the lifter bore mod and will buy hylift johnson lifters on Paul Carters recommendation.

I am buying prepped heads from Butler. All I have to do is tell him about the change. I had pushrods that are stock length to go with the old hydraulic cam but all the valvetrain components are now for sale in the classified section. Cam Lifters and Pushrods. If they dont sell I will keep them for the other 455 block because my wife wants a "little lemans" 61-63

Its gonna be a long project. I am having to save for body work and paint now and that and chrome will come before the engine build. Then I gotta save for the trans. 9 Inch is already in the car. 3.70 gears with an Eaton Tru Trac. Aluminum Center Section with Ford Explorer disc brakes and Wilwoods up front. Stock springs and shocks but all the UMI braces and control arms with tall ball joints. Should be a nice car. Lotta money

X3 ^^^ Shine a light thru every port in the dark, I have seen valves not seating on brand new heads. I do not believe they will seat themselves correctly after you start the car. That's what some might tell you.
