I had seen it around for that kind of money, but did not figure it would be had for 30k.

FYI,I know the owner of the front end!He has always said he would sell it to the owner of the car if it was found! He did but at a price that was very high for the condition it was in.If you had bought the car YOU would have had the right to buy it.This build was looked at from every way possible.I thought myself it should be restored as it left the factory but MANY thought it should be restored as raced.John had virtually all parts necessary to do either.I helped him get many and helped him find the fab guy for the front end.EVERYONE can play monday morning quarter back and judge the build but its done, way far done.John was told this may not be the venue to really sell the car and maybe to hold for Indy.He wanted to get it out there to get it visible and see what the market will bear.i know what the reserve was and pretty sure I know what would have bought it.John can now decide what to do in the future.Best of luck to him so he can move on and restore some other rare pieces of pontiac history.Tom

Call me crazy, but I don't think the original front sheet metal is needed for this car. Absolutely, it needs to be aluminum, but not original to the car. That said, if I managed the restoration of the car I would have made all the front end components as original. There are details about the front sheet metal that are not as original.

Damn... How many of us would have been in at 30k. I know I would have. I didn't see it go but do you think the hammer was premature?

Pretty sure if I was there bidding it would have kept on going then I couldn't have afforded it anyway. What a steal!!!

I dvr'd it and went back and watched it. I too couldn't believe it sold so cheap. It also appeared to me that it was short hammered.

I spent quite a bit of time looking around. I gravitated to the 63 Lemans and also a nice 63 Catalina with a SD 421 but not an original SD car. Comments overheard around the Lemans were typically something like... "That's a 421? Didn't they put 'dem in 'dem dare 2+2's?"

Here's an idea. If I were wanting to sell that car, I would talk to POCI/GTOAA and see if they would be willing to set up an auction during the co-vention this year. It would be an attraction to get people to come and the right buyers would be there.

That's an interesting idea Doug - might bring some revenue to the club too.
