Default Wheel arch moulding fitment

Is there a trick to getting a better fit on the rear wheel opening trims? I have factory trims and factory quarterpanels. But it is hard to get the middle top tight to the body ! I have a noticeable gap. When I force the moulding tight, I have buckling of the flat part, like it needs shrinking. I am wondering if bending the wheel lip up or down will help? Or just cut a tiny pie section out of the trim?

Middle top is where the first screw should go, alternating out on both sides. If your are not doing it that way, try it with all other screws removed. You might have to drill a new hole or two in the quater lip. GM was not perfect in locating holes. Worked at a GM dealer body shop in the 70’s, so I saw this often.

I had the same issue. But, my 72 had new quarters put on by previous owner. When I went to fit the trim on (car was apart when purchased), the trim fit as you say. I decided to use my cut off wheel and cut small slices to give it room to form a better radius and it worked great. They now fit tight. The fronts were ok. When I was done, I painted Rust Bullet (it's a silver rust inhibiter) it the slices and no one can see the fab.
