Default Official '70 -'72 GTO Tempest Lemans Picture Thread

Does it exist? Have I just overlooked it? Being the tech section, I didn't want to dump photo's here if there was a better spot.

Not that one is ever "done" with a car, but I am close. Close enough to get the pics up.

Very Nice! (It doesn't bother me, but you might take some heat from some of the guys for that air cleaner sticker )

Give me more input on the sticker. There was one on that air cleaner lid and so I replaced it. Should it not be there? I never looked into it, just ordered one at that stage to replace it. To my knowlege, it is/was original to the car.

There wasn't much that wasn't original to this car so I figured it was good to go.

Thanks!
Wade

That is a really great looking car you have...fellow Jayhawker. AR adopted home, but I drew my first breath at Stafford, KS.

"...Give me more input on the sticker..."

I am original owner of a 70 GTO, standard car, standard 400 ci. No decal was on my air cleaner.

Tell me this, what was that decal on? It wasn't Ram Air correct? I will do some more digging, but am darn sure it was on this car due to research I have done. If it wasn't, cool I would like to know. The Air lid prior to cleaning had the chrome fade where this sticker was. It wasn't 100%, but I know it didn't say ram air or 2v, etc, etc.

Thanks fellas!

Right here is a perfect place for pics...We never frown on anyone posting pics of their cars...

Pontiac never had stickers on their air cleaners for 400 engines..Those were Buick style stickers...455 HO Pontiac had some, but totally diff't style...Someone added these on....

HA, I may know what this is about then. Would those Buicks have been GSX's? 70 model? I am pretty sure there was a Buick at that household at the same time. I will dig on that like no other. Let me know on the decal/70 GSX deal if you know.

Thanks,
Wade

Not sure about them being from a Buick, what I meant was that those styles were originally on Buicks, but then they repopped them for Pontiacs as well, even though Pontiac never had them...Weren't '70 GSX's equipped with 455's only???

Great pics of a sweet 70 Gunner. Since it looks like you spent the time getting the details right in the engine compartment, I'd loose the sticker.

Gunner you are in the right place to post pics of such a beautiful 70. I have seen the same decal on several other Pontiac's so I feel that if you want to keep it then you should. Again nice job on your car.

Thanks fellas. I wasn't going for a 100% car, but I made every effort to keep it replacement/part update OK. Most of the car was there, I didn't have to locate much of anything. I replaced a lot of parts, but to my surprise, is was a pretty complete car to start with.

I am not a Buick guy, not sure of the 455 deal.

I have some photo's coming my way of this car when it was less than 5 years old. Fingers crossed they are good photo's. Would be nice to add to this project.

The hood tach, spoiler, and passenger sport mirror are not correct with the car either, but that is what I wanted.
As far as the decal, well if they didn't have em, I'll probably pull it.

Thanks again, it is good to finally be this far along with it.

Gunner,

Unless you're going for points/judging who cares. Having one will save you a lot of breath at shows answering everybody's favorite question.
I always wondered why there is no engine call out anywhere, every other make seems to have one.

Buick offered other performance cars besides the GS-X. Such as the Gran Sport, GS, and GN series.

Also, the stickers in the pictures have Pontiac emblems.
