Default 61-63 Parts Wanted

Casperson signed off on selling parts in the Tech forum. Makes sense to have a wanted thread as well. Lets try to keep all parts wanted requests in the Tech forum to this sticky.

Default 63 steering wheel

Looking for a black steering wheel for my wife's 63. I have a half descent horn ring but the two wheels I have are badly cracked. I have a deluxe one that needs repaired but $1500 plus exchange is too much.

When I needed one for my 62, I used 2 of the adapters for a Lokar throttle cable. I used one on each end. Although you may need to open the hole on the carb and also the trans for the stud to go through.

I went to my local hardware store and bought a length of small cable. I was lucky, in that the tube was still in the car, just not the cable. I suppose if you don't have the tube, a piece of brake line would work.

Gary, How recent is the RARE PARTS info? A few years ago I talked with them about the manual units and they were wanting about $280 and you had to furnish a core piece. They told me that supplies of core pieces had virtually dried up at that time.

Doug,
Very recent, I had one in my hand in September that my friend just got back from Rare for $197. He was impressed with the quality and wanted to show me before he put it in. Another friend told me the same price, he just got his back from them two weeks ago and he lives in Canada.

Go on their website and take a look for part number 20744 or search by vehicle and price is $197 R & R only, you have to send them yours.

Both of my extras are bad too. Good used ones are hard to find. Good thing you only need 2 and not 4. I think C5farmer or Keith rebuilt one and posted it here.

I THINK I've STILL GOT THE ONE OUT OF MY 62.
I'll look to see if I still have it tomorrow.

Thanks for the update.

That looks like a good deal for sure. I notice the one pictured in their ad has a grease fitting added to it. That is a nice touch. (Wonder why Pontiac didn't do that originally?)
