I think it's more than teens putting wings, etc. - it's lowest-common denominator thinking. The same people who add SS badges to everything, or paint a Mopar purple or red. A large percentage of people do this, and that's their right, but then we are the ones who have to deal with it when cruising eBay or Barrett-Jackson. I've seen many pedigreed cars that have been "ruined" by a zealous owner who wants to add every do-dad.
But we're geeks in comparison, and there's room for plenty of folks in the hobby, so this kind of behavior will continue. Kinda on a tangent, I know of an ultra-rare 1967 Plymouth Belvedere I Hemi car that's one of a handful built, as the Hemi generally was restricted to the GTX that year. Some guy had an original one and decided to tub it. Why not get a /6 Belvedere and modify that? Well, it was his car, and he did what he wanted. |

you will never understand that mentality,,,neither will I nor half the people here
I have the same issue..i've seen beautiful (add brand here) and they where rust free, and very nice cars, and they got hacked and tubbed..and the floor boards and trunk where mint....they cut the floors out from the toe boards to the back bumper..then...they cut the perfect rust free 1/4s up to stretch the wheel openings...why not start with a rusty turd no one cares about.. instead, lets cut up the nicest car we can...oh..its a hemi? cool...lets really cut it up.....and then the insult...they never finish them....they ruin them..then loose interest...and they change their minds...and they get parted..and scrapped....or change hands 5 times and never get finished...seen it many many times

Yessir!
3 WW5 post coupes and just 10 total LS5-equipped 1972 GTO post coupes, 3 M22 cars and 7 M40s. Unfortunately, as with all WW5 cars, I don't have the M22/M40 breakdown for the three post WW5 cars at hand. Rarer still - but not as desirable - a total of 5 L75 1972 GTO post coupes were built, all M40 cars of course. EDIT: Credit Fred Simmonds for these numbers.

the data plate reads like this
ST 72 23537 A 00781 BDY TR 272 A 5118 4 65 A PNT 09B 11 011668 180126 The weird thing in the last line after the 09B the 11 is stamped and with a much bigger and different font. Hope this helps. Mike |

Thank you Mike for confirming. I believe I remember that particular WW5 driving around in Norman OK in the early 90's. It's the only Sundance orange '72 455 HO that I vividly remember seeing the 455 HO decal under the GTO decal on the right rear trunk.

There were over the counter spoilers available - I have held one in my hands that was still in the box!

Now that you bring that up, seems that I do recall hearing something to that effect.
I DO know that Skwirblies used to claim it was factory-installed, but has since been proven that it was an over-the-counter part. Thanks for correcting me, Diego.

Tried to enlarge and enhance that invoice some. That's a nice bunch of options on a great car. I'm thinking that the unreadable line right on the crease is the PO5 Honeycomb Wheels option (478) for $123.00. |

If you went to the PY (Max Performance) link, you get a clearer picture.

Wow - yes indeed Pontiac billed for the 455HO twice on that shipping record!

What I'm loosely referring to as a body number is really more of a job number. It follows the build from start to finish and is listed on the Bsheet as well as trim tag. 011668 on your 09B vs. 269517 on an 04D example. 18 0126 would also be listed on Bsheet. 18 is supposed to be the build sequence for that day or shift. 0126 supposedly the body buck carrier jig number. The 04D example has number 74 0665. 00781 is your actual Lemans Hdtp Body # 04D is # 19326 A51 is bucket seats 18 might be Console 4 might be Vinyl Top The stamped 11 , idunno 11 is also a code for White Paint, but can't think of anything right off hand that would need to be cut in with white paint on your car. It meant something to somebody though. And your car had a lot of White parts. 04D car had no vinyl top, no 4, and no stamped numbers. Yours again : ST 72 23537 A 00781 BDY TR 272 A 5118 4 65 A PNT 09B 11 011668 180126 Quezal Gold: ST 72 - 23537 A 19326 BDY TR 273 A5118 53 53 PNT 04D 269517 740655 |

It that's a WW5, it's currently wearing the wrong tennies. Those are 14" 'stones, not G60s.
Gorgeous car in that one pic, though!

Did anyone from here buy IndianGiver's Sundance WW5 on eBay ?
Seemed well bought for around 3500 iirc. Could probably have bid higher with better pics outdoors or less cramped conditions. Have a feeling it might have been better shape overall than some of the pics made it out to be. Could also be wrong too. Definitely had front and rear window channel rust from vinyl top syndrome though. Did the buyer follow through on it, IndianGiver ? |
