67-79 Picture thread
How come there isn't a picture thread stickied at the top of this forum? Here's my '68 with the new 15" wheels.

Low prices and big comfort have drawn me deeper to the dark side with 4 big ponchos now.
First up is my 69 Catalina drop top, a typically optioned car with AC, power drum brakes, PS, etc. I believe I'm the third owner and she is is a nice clean unrestored rustfree car with 76,000 miles which despite how she looks in these pics could use a nice paint job one day. I bought it last November and she was still optioned exactly as per the buildsheet, I changed that a bit by upgrading a few items; NOS door edge gaurds, custom hubcaps to replace the deluxe ones, a clock since I had one and a correct AM/FM mono to replace the now useless (in my neighborhood anyway) AM radio. This summer I'm dropping in a correct 69 4bbl 428-360 Bonneville engine since the current 400 has to come out anyhow due to severe rear seal leak and the 428 is just collecting dust on a pallet in my shop.

Next up is my 69 Bonnie Brougham convertible, my first darksider that I bought back almost 10 years ago from the second owner who bought it as a demo. The car is from Los Angeles so it was rust free despite 105,000 miles. She is fully factory optioned with just about every including oddities like Instant-Aire, the large grey accessory trunk mat, auto leveling suspension, reel-out underhood light, speed warning buzzer along with all the more traditional stuff like, PW, power seat, power locks, 8track, stereo radio, leather etc etc.
When I got her she was painted a bright aftermarket red and under that color she was painted correct Limelight green but under that was the factory Expresso Brown she was born with. For all the color changes to the body the rest of the car was utterly untouched, original convertible top, 100% original interior down to the rug (still the case today but the leather is starting to rip) and untouched mechanicals. I painted her 2-3 years ago and doing the engine this year and hopefully the leather once I find a good local upholstery guy.

Next is the oddball car of my collection a 69 Catalina (Ventura equipped) 2 seat wagon. This car is in time warp condition with beautiful original paint, utterly untouched mint interior and a time warp under hood and chassis. The car was won new on a TV show in 1968 and was never daily driven and stored in a private airplane hanger since new. I'm the second owner having bought it in 2014.
The car was ordered with a strange option load, standard engine, TH400, AC, power drum brakes and PS, AM radio and the Ventura trim option, AM radio, tinted glass, the lamp group (cornering, underhood and cargo lamps) as well as warning lamps, roof rack, wind deflector, power tailgate window and whitewalls but not the decor group so it has dog dish, cheapo 2 spoke steering wheel and no chrome around the windows. The car has a decidedly "US Forest Service" feel to her.

Last is my latest big Poncho, just got her a few weeks ago... Another Bonneville Brougham but this time a 4 door hardtop. She is really an untouched car, zero rust and with original (but beyond help, like my White Cat the photos hide the true condition) paint, mint original interior (I swapped in the Woodwheel for fun this last week) and a mint Cordova top with zero bubbling. Mechanically she is all original and untouched but the engine bay needs detailing thanks to someone painting the top of the engine Ford blue in the 70's when the timing gears were changed as well as what looks like a battery that sprayed the inner fender with acid.
She has 60,000 original miles and almost all of it before 1979. I'm the second owner. Mechanically she runs very nice but will need a big going over thanks to 30 years of hibernation. She is heavily optioned including neat options include a complete and functioning Instant Aire pump. Options include, tilt, gauges, PW, power seat, power trunk, lamp group, AC, factory floor mats, tinted glass, wire wheel covers, cruise etc You can't look at this car without talking about the color scheme. It is the result of a mix up when the car was ordered; I have the original order form and the car was not built as specified, first they forgot to install the power locks that were ordered and then the colors! The car was ordered with a gold interior and a gold top but it came through with a green interior and a black top. The reason is that despite a big two page photo of exactly the car as he ordered it in the 69 Brochure there was no gold interior available in a 4 door Brougham.

Awesome cars, John.
Would be great to gather them all together for a group photo at an old Pontiac dealer site! Mike

Ok! Just some pictures of cars I own plus ones I've sold over the years...
1973 Grand Safari: 1967 Executive: 1967 Catalina: 1967 Bonneville: 1974 Catalina Safari: 1978 Bonneville: 1971 Catalina Brougham: So far the most reliable with the least effort invested has been the '78, which I loved driving all up and down California for years. Shouldn't have gotten rid of it, but got tired of dealing with smog. I currently drive the '73 every day and in every kind of weather except salt. |

Thanks, Dennis! Not sure about the weight but it has few options. Manual drum brakes, 2 barrel, single exhaust, no a\c, highway friendly gears, AM radio. Changed out the 14" wheels and full wheel covers for 15" with poverty caps. Nice driver that could use a bare metal repaint in a few years.

63 Pontiac, Thanks for the info on your Cat. I found your original thread when you first got it. It is such a clean car and a perfect candidate for a 428 HO, M-21 4-speed, and 4.11 locking rear end. The factory parts book says a manual trans base Carolina's curb weight is 3839 lbs, 144 lbs more than the 1965 Catalina. Definitely not a lightweight.

Oh yeah, I would love to have a 3rd pedal with a stroked 400 and it may happen at some point but this car drives so nice as is that I hesitate to make the change over. Planning on disc brakes and dual exhaust this summer.
I just looked at the weight on the registration and it has 4,000 lbs showing. Looking at it, I can now recall being at the DMV with no weight listed on the original title and giving a rough guess for it.
