Let's be honest: Dan's Canyon Copper HO is the inspiration for both cars. :-)

That's true for sure. I remember seeing that car at Pontiac, Mich Nats awhile back. Didn't know any of those legends back then. That car did have inspiration written all over it!

Minor Progress Update
The next job is to strip out the interior, pull the gas tank & lines, then remove the bare block and trans. I'll probably remove the dash and formula wheel while I'm at it. Not sure how to attack the underside of the floor which has just light surface rust. I would like to media blast and paint it semi-gloss black...but not sure of the easiest/best way yet. I also want to patch the only bad spot on the body which includes a corresponding little patch on the outer wheel house.
I'm assuming Fremont A-bodies have black painted undersides with body paint overspray like many of the other assembly plants. Dennis |

...BTW, Dan kicked my butt in this race. My car was uber stock and a pig with 75k miles on the motor. The T-37 had its original motor back in the engine bay and with 3.55's it ran 12.80's @ 105 mph...mine 13.60's @ 104 mph. Very humbling. I remember people coming up to me a asking why my car didn't bet a lowly T-37, until I told them what it had under the hood and the 350 lb. weight difference.

What's the plan for stripes? Those look like they are painted on?

I see now....I'm just catching up.
I have to share this, as someone made this from my feeble ad attempt.

That's pretty cool Mike! I always thought the car in the original ad was yours anyways.

Method of underbody finish was the same between Fremont and Pontiac builds of my '71 233's. Same deal on similar dated parts cars I've owned. Have examined much more color coverage on the underbody on a few Lakewood plant builds, not sure if that was a trend all year long, or just an outlier.
detail differences I've been able to note in assembly are limited to style of bolt head markings, existence or non existance of a date code on the pass side flange of the hood (adjacent to the hood hinge), and the different plating on the small bolt noticeable on top of core support. dennis, were you ble to ck the AC box finish, existence of divet?

Roger, Thanks for the clarifications! I will check today regarding the A/C box dimples for the hood tach defogger connections and color and report back.

Weekend Work to the GT-37
Well, it's almost disassembled to the point of clean-up and reassembly with existing and some replacement (I didn't say new) parts. Took most of the interior out, save for the dash area and steering column....that's next along with the engine block, trans and driveshaft.
Here are some pics of the fun....Dennis |
