That's a striking body style and your work is impressive. You'll be selling viewing tickets everywhere you go. Very cool to see this brought back so nicely.

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Darren 639, tallrandyb and Shiny for the kind words.
I recently recovered hundreds of restoration pictures from a computer that crashed and thought others might enjoy seeing some of them.

To properly paint interior it was necessary to paint door jambs and all interior parts of doors including window frames. I removed vent windows and replaced rubber. Also new door rubber, windshield gasket and tailgate gasket from Steele Rubber.

Yes. I think the Silver Leaf part of color description refers to metallic

I didn't realize so many of the colors offered in '62 were metallic. Is Poly short for something?

Looks awesome. Will you paint the exterior with single stage too?
Most sources say you have to use bc/cc with metallics.

It is very hard to spray single stage metallics and keep the particles from floating.
The other issue is that single stage metallics cannot be wet sanded and buffed, unless you spray a few coats of clear last.

I painted both Tempests pictured below using single stage acrylic enamel with hardener. The hardener gives the paint a deep glossy shine. Both paint jobs were wet sanded and buffed. No clear on either car.
The Caravan Gold coupe was featured in article below.

https://stevemckelvie.wordpress.com/...-of-an-engine/

The first time I sprayed the gold coupe, I had used too much pressure and had stripes in the paint from the metallic. After I figured out what went wrong I re-prepped the car and sprayed with lower pressure and got great results.

It seems weird they make single stage metallics and say they aren’t recommended.
I see Eastwood has this.

Default Upper Ball joints

I bought a pair of NOS upper ball joints but found the originals to be tight and in excellent condition so I didn't change them. They were covered in crud and weren't rusty. I replaced the shaft & bushings with NOS. Also found original looking control arm shims to replace rusty originals. And replaced the Grade 8 hardware.
The original tie rod ends and adjusters were also in nice condition so I measured the lengths on both of them before taking them apart for cleaning.

Default Lots of Parts To Paint

The automotive paint supply store was able to mix my Silverleaf Green paint using code "J". I watched as the guy weighed each ingredient on a scale so I know the color is right.
Lots of misc. parts to paint.

Default NOS Exterior Trim Parts

I have been collecting NOS exterior trim pieces for when Safari gets painted.
In the boxes are front & rear bumper guard kits and back-up lamp kit.

Sure, back then! Everything you see was painted with enamel spray cans. The control arms are painted with Krylon satin black.
The dark green paint on the Safari upper dash is lacquer base. But it's not a paint, it's Sems vinyl dye. That's why upper dash has a satin finish not glossy. Greg

Default The Engine

The engine is the original numbers matching that ran till around 1981 when someone tried to change the fuel pump and stripped out both bolt threads in timing chain cover. The engine had 101K miles when parked.
Before pulling the engine out a friend suggested I get it to run first and test transmission. I got it to run and idle using a jug of gas to gravity feed the carb.
The cylinders are now bored 0.030" over and the cylinder head has new valves, seats, guides and springs. I bought a Heli-Coil kit and repaired the timing chain cover.

The craftsmanship really shows in your restoration. Thank you for sharing photographs. My 62 was a factory air car and I would like to put it back on it but the only pieces I have are the shroud and the unit that goes under the dash. Where did you source your parts from for the AC system? Is it like everything else with these cars? Find good used or NOS?
