Default Reproduction Rally II Lug Nuts - chrome quality

Hi,

The lug nuts on my 68 Firebird with rally wheels keep surface rusting, even after cleaning them with CLR and being garaged 90% of the time.

Anyone familiar with the 1967-1970 RALLY II LUG NUTS, BLACK CENTER, EA (APE) ones? https://www.amesperf.com/parts/1602/

If you have them let me know how they are holding up to the elements.

Thanks!

Sounds frustrating and noted!

My guess is Boston has high RH year-round and a garage won't change that. Do you have other chrome-plated parts that DON't rust? Comparing to other climates, especially places in the west where nothing rusts, might not help ??

My reproductions are over 15 years old and look great. Maybe the newer quality isn’t the same…Maryland

Could be from one batch to the next the chrome might be a different thickness.

Perhaps treating them with a chemical to clean them just etched the chrome making it more susceptible to rusting.

My garages are pretty dry with epoxy floors, but b-mans probably right, the cleaning process probably made it more susceptible. I have no idea if these are original (probably not) but the APE ones are on order. Thanks!

I got the same lug nuts from Ames over 2 years ago. They still look like new here in SE PA.
