Default swapping converters

How much higher will a converter from a low output chevy 350 stall in my built 455 (in signature)?? The converter i have been using is a stock unit from a 76 455. The chevy converter is from an 86 4x4 truck.

probably very close to the same as what you are running....

what are you wanting to achieve?.....if you're wanting more stall, save your money and build one tailored to your combo and your goals..

no way to tell accurately, waste of time to try it out.

Best to do as Mchell says.

My trans is pulled right now and i'm swapping in a spare. My friend has the chevy converter i was talking about. I measured both tonight and mine is a 13" and his is a 12". Generally speaking, the smaller the diameter the higher it should stall, correct? I know there are a ton of variables, but that is generally correct isnt it? I will most likely buy a new converter this summer or when funds allow, but for now since its already pulled apart, would this converter stall higher than mine? The converter came from a 4x4 truck i think, with 3.73 gears and a 350 v8. My car has a 464 cu/in. so much higher performance than the 190hp 350 v8. My rear gear is currently 2.41 (future upgrade) so another reason it should stall higher in my combo, correct? I have a 28" tire, but unsure of what size the truck had. My car weighs less than an 86 4x4, but not sure how much. I've read about putting small block converters on big inch built motors and resulting in higher stall speeds, say apprx 2500-3000.. They werent quite as good as a special built converter obviously, but provided a performance increase none the less... Does anyone have experience with doing this? An example i read about was using chevy vega converters. I just want to know how well it will work and around where it might stall.

Most transmissions by 1986 used lock-up, make sure it's from a TH400 application, not from an overdrive unit.

Truck converters are pretty efficient, unlikely it will stall much higher than what it is replacing......Cliff
