Anyone that says "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" would be wrong on this one.

I'd be willing to bet Koerner Racing Engines is doing this on every engine they build now.

Hard lesson to learn over a $10 oil filter. Especially when ten bucks could be added to the cost of a build. And for what it cost to build these....Customers wouldn't give a second thought to ten extra dollars.

Good for Joe
Good for Paul
And good for Koerner Racing for doing what's right.

$10 oil filter has nothing to do with this. A full flow filter simply cannot filter fine enough to catch everything. If it did, the engine would starve for oil. Also, we always cut open the oil filter after any engine dyno session.

There is nothing on Paul or Jeff here. If you knew these guys on a personal level, talk to them face to face, and visit the shop where they take pride in their work, and see some of the high end stuff they build that make HP, then half the people here wouldn't be saying the things they are.

And for those that don't know, Paul and Jeff build a lot of Nascar South West Tour series engines as well as quite a few engines for people that compete NHRA divisional races, competed in the EMC, and Jeff is a master with Holleys building many of them for Nascar Cup teams before they went fuel injection. So they know a thing or two about making some HP.

All I want is the motor that I've been waiting. It's been over 2 years.

Default pump/ shaft

30 year ago i had almost the same issue , turn my oil pump shaft into a pretzel after closer inspect found out the lint from the red service rags got between the gear and shaft of the oil pump and seize the shaft on the pump and no i did not leave a rag in the motor, it was lint and now i only use paper towel to assemble.

To be honest I called Lynches and I know they race Pontiacs but I didn’t get a warm fuzzy. Wayne Sless in Greenwood builds all the engines for the Southeast Gassers Association and his attention to detail is bar none. He built two 421s for a friend of mine and I knew he was my man. Look up Caster1 build thread on here and you can see Wayne’s work

My motor is back home and hopefully we'll get to install it soon. Here are the dyno sheets from the first time it was dyno'd and the most recent dyno numbers. This car should be a handful! Sorry about the pictures not being in the correct order. I wasn't too sure how to do that. The 1st two pictures are the most recent dyno numbers!

1st dyno was Sept of 2017 and the 2nd dyno was June of 2019. I believe the 1st dyno was with headers and the 2nd dyno was with the Ram Air manifolds.

Default Question

Someone asked me a question that I really don't know the answer to. I'm hoping someone can give me an answer. Can someone explain the oil temperature differences in the first dyno pull to the 2nd dyno pull? Is this normal? I really don't know how to even read this dyno sheet at all.

And it made more power the 2nd time because I believe this time around it had Jeff's carburetor on it

Hey Formulajones,

If you look at the descriptions of the carbs at the top of sheets, both of the dyno sheets are pulls with the Jeff Koerner carburetor.

My understanding is that Jeff and Paul were still working on your carb at that time. I may have misunderstood him but when I look at those sheets it confirms that. 1st test was an 850 brawler deal that I think was your carb. 2nd test says it's the Jeffy carb which is one of Jeff's special carbs that he builds specifically for a particular combo.

Formulajones,

I don't have a dyno sheet that indicates the 870 Street Avenger that I originally had. I was told that the dyno guy puts nicknames for Jeff's carburetors (850 Brawler). The first dyno had a Koerner carburetor ("Jeffy") on it but it was one that was for another car. The 2nd dyno is the "850 Brawler". The carburetor that was used on the first dyno is posted on this thread earlier.

So in a nutshell, from what I understand, in the last dyno session, they were able to use the carb that Jeff built specifically for your combo.
