Ventura "Sun Coupe" ???
Was at a cruise night a few weeks ago and saw a '71 or '72 Ventura in the parking lot outside of the car show. It was white with dark color vinyl top, but the top had a retractable sunroof much like a Buick Skylark Sun Coupe. Looked factory to me, but the first one I've ever seen. Are these pretty rare? It was a bucket and console car too. Neat car!!!

My buddy had one in high school. He sold it and I never saw it again. That may be the rarest option on the Venture. I have only seen a few in the last 35 years. Jim

I knew of the Skylark/GS Suncoupe but never a Ventura. Neat. Seems like a rarer option than the camper option.

There were special 'SD' 4 doors for 1972 with the sliding sunroof. 500 were made at the Los Angeles, Van Nuys plant. No, they didnt have SD motors. But they had 'sport tuned suspension'.

Those Skylark Sun Coupes were very popular here in Chicago in 70's. Didnt see a lot of X bodies with sunroofs, though. Either were basic or 'hot rodded'.

Additional Pics of Ventura w/Skyroof
Here are two other Skyroof-equipped Venturas:
http://www.pontiacventura.com/new_ri...a-nyrav-pf.jpg http://www.pontiacventura.com/ventur...carsdotcom.jpg (this one was apparently located in Canada) For a little more detail, you can see the full-size photos previously posted at: http://www.pontiacventura.com/1972_p..._ventura_3.htm (about mid-page, and Justin's car has lots of images sprinkled about the '72 pages) http://www.pontiacventura.com/ventur...72factpic2.jpg (in case the image gets detached again) Pretty sure I might have an image of the 4-door 'SD' with skyroof in a road test article, will post it if I track it down. Motor Trend in one of their summer '72 [July?] mags has an article on the SD Ventura. I got it buried in store room. They really liked it, and it lead to why they praised the 74 GTO.

Ventura Skyroof
Interesting conversation. I'm restoring a '68 Firebird and it has one of these roofs. It's a PHS documented car, but this does not show up on the documentation. The thin bit of history I have is that it was a dealer installed option on this car but I have no way to verify. Has anyone heard about this roof on a 68 Firebird? I'm trying to decide if I keep it or replace it.

Last year in the Pittsburgh area ,was a '72 Nova SS 4 speed with this roof for $1,700. I tried jumping on it,but being 1100 miles away, I wasn't fast enough. It sold the same day I called, the same day the ad came out.(Craigslist)

The car is in decent shape the body is straight and all original butis in need of paint.. The interior is in need of full restoration but has all original seats dash ect... The engine is the inline 6 and I was told it runs but it needs a battery but I live in Alaska and I wasnt even going to attemp to move it till spring and honestly I was going to put a 383 stroker in it but if the car is rare I might change directions on that
