Have a 69 GTO convertible with PHS documentation. VIN is stamped in block and tranny. Car has 48 heads (RAM AIR III?}, but not RA exhaust manifolds. PHS documentation makes no indication of other than stock engine. Any ideas why RA heads?

THE NEW GTOAA REFERENCE ISSUE LIST THE FOLLOWING:
1969
PART #9795048
CAST # 48
APPLICATION 400 4 BBL W/MT
400 4 BBL RA W/MT

SO I WOULD SAY THEY COULD BE USED ON EITHER. LILL WARRIOR

I have had a '69 RA III auto that was #'s matching and had the 48 heads. I have read a couple of magazine articles that backs this up also. So the mystery of what and why continues. The difference between a ram air 48 head and the non RA head are the springs.

Todd was mostly correct.

1969 #48 heads were used on:
4 speed GTO with or without ramair,
auto GTO with ramair,
4 speed firebird 400 with ramair,
4 speed Gran Prix with high horse motor only

1969 #62 heads were used on:
auto GTO without ramair,
auto or 4 speed 400 bird without ramair,
auto firebird 400 with ramair,
all auto Gran Prix,
Gran Prix 4 speed low horse (I do have one of these for sale with matching number motor)
