On the old list that was privately shared years ago by Dan, there were details of eight HO GT-37's, 2 listed were 71.5's. there are two more 71.5's not listed. need to pull the hardrive out of my old laptop & see what can do to get it to install in another (screen will not light up). Had info on one more early HO GT-37, there is also info on quite a few more LeMans Sports.

It's official now, Dan has added this GT-37 to the HO Registry.

Has the car been found? Or is he just adding the engine block to the list?

Unfortunately, just the motor for now. In all likelihood, the body has been scrapped a long time ago.

Be nice to see the secret list.

Dan is updating the registry...it has been awhile since any new VINs have been added. I need a copy since I am an A-body HO owner now.

Is that the key to get into the club Dennis?

Chris, I think so...plus you have to ask real nicely...and then, you still may not get a copy. I'm still waiting (ha,ha). In all reality, Dan stays really busy and needed a good reason to get back to the registry and update it. He will eventually get it done. I imagine all your HO A-bodies you've owned are in the registry.

I have tried all local and national searches and come up empty so far. I do know it was serviced at Village Pontiac in Naperville IL. at one point as the tech mentioned the color combo before we applied for PHS. Any additional info would be highly welcome as I know the odds are long but worth the effort if found. Thanks to all on your responses and thoughts for locating this vehicle. |

It's interesting that you were able to talk to a service tech that worked on the car. Do you know when that was and does the dealership have service records from that time? I'm sure you already investigated that and came up empty-handed. I have a '71 GT-37 that needs a replacement 455HO motor. It too was a 3-spd. M-13 trans, but did have posi!

Unfortunately the old dealership has been moved along with the service records left behind or destroyed.

What are your plans for the 455HO? Have an A-body to install it into?

No, unfortunately no A body. Was originally going find my wife a Lucy Blue, white interior stick car before the PHS came back as shown.
We will continue to seek out body for a few months and decide on final outcome if nothing shows up. What color is the car needing H.O. ? |

SD455XD - My GT-37 (455HO w/3-spd) is a 12B Fremont, CA (Z code) build in Canyon Copper/white interior with the early Red-White eyebrow stripes like in the attached picture. The picture is of Mike Spark's (Judge273) 455HO '71 GT-37 which mine is identical to, except mine had 14x7 Honeycombs and a few more options (A/C, hood tach, etc.). The two-tone '71 T-37 next to it is my brother Dan's 455HO all-original car (paint, stripes, drivetrain, etc.) also Canyon Copper with R-W eyebrow stripes that was ordered as a drag racer. I have the original 455HO engine, M-13 trans, and the 3.31 12-bolt Safe-T-Track rear end, however, the block is already .060 over and 197 heads are cracked, so I need to find a new HO one of these days.

Our cars were both built at the Fremont, CA assembly plant and were built 2 months apart. Small world!

Absolutely! I'll be hanging with Mike and a bunch of other Formula Firebird guys in the display I've organized called Fabulous Formulas. I'll have my '71 455HO Bird there that is also Canyon Copper. I am a judge as well, so a lot of my time will be spent crawling in, around, and under various stock A and F body Pontiacs. Certainly introduce yourself to me (and all the guys) when you swing by. The car will have the original 15x7 Honeycombs on it, not the steelies and dog dishes.

Dennis,
When I got my 71 trans am it had the wrong block in it, so about a year or so ago I spent some time looking for a correct one. I located something like 8 different blocks/engines, two of which were from A-bodies since they had a Z for the plant code. I bought one of those blocks for my car, but I have pictures and info on the other one which I could forward you if you're interested. It's a 485428 casting, dated B021, with a VIN of 21Z1239XX. If I remember correctly, it was in Michigan, but I'm not 100% sure. Chris |

Hi Chris - Yes, I'd be interested in the info/pictures you have on that 455HO block. You can email me at dennis.jensen@c2ae.com when you can.
Thanks! Dennis |
