Congrats!! very NICE! Please continue to post all about the new purchase. Sounds like you have plenty of documentation and the history is well known. I like your plan to clean, correct what's wrong, and give her a light fluffing. Please post pics of all the nooks and crannies along the way . Are you planning to do any re-plating? Just curious what you have in store on certain items like the brake booster, hood hinges, etc... Enjoy and again congrats on your 73.

So the car is here and I am very happy. It's not perfect, but I knew that. I've put it on the lift to inspect the bottom side and am happy with what I see. It's cleaner than the Gold Car was, and has no undercoating to deal with. Pretty incredible for a car that spent most of its' life in Indiana. Here are some preliminary pictures from below. A few comments first:
1) the starter still has the support bracket and heat shield, but was painted engine blue??? Looks kind of original...
2) the valance opening did not get the factory black out treatment
3) pictures of yellow line bracket and speedo cable clip for PY members. You know who you are.
4) driveshaft and rear axle showing factory paint marks
5) some fasteners and parts need sorted
6) It has the weird front fuel and return line fitting. NJSteve...
7) Aftermarket exhaust pretty well done with welded system and H-pipe. Sounds pretty bitchin.
8) someone painted the gas tank black a long time ago
9) Can't wait to get Wide Ovals installed, original shocks redone, and.........

The touch up paint looks great but I don't know how the rubber from the T/A radials is going to look on the lower rear fenders. Honestly, I NEVER dumped the clutch the whole time I had the car.
I know that you will be a better caretaker for the red car than I ever was.
Now, about those Wide Ovals.........

Exhaust pretty well done...
except for the missing nuts.

Was the engine paint touched up to signify the updated emission changes?

I would have bet $5.00 you would notice that. The hose clamp was even more astute, even I hadn't noticed that. WCG had already fixed it. Keep looking, I'm sure there is more.

The 73's would have the plastic valence, which would have covered the bottom of the nose lip.
(so it would not be black?)

Very nice looking 73!

Congrats!

Did 73's get the bumper black out? I wouldn't think that they would because of the factory plastic valance would cover that area.

Here's a few more pictures under the hood. It's interesting that I noticed someone commented on the black painted hood latch on the SD time capsule car. Sure enough, this one is also painted black. No evidence the core support was painted. If so it was years ago and I doubt anyone was re-popping the emission stickers, and if so the person who went to the trouble of painting the core installed the sticker crooked??? Last Indiana inspection was November 1979. Hinges look great. Hood to cowl seal is toast. Master Cylinder still has black paint and evidence of sticker. Inspection mark on booster. Overspray on hood.

Lastly, I would be remiss if I didn't thank a few people. My Pal Dave first for being my friend and hauling ass all over the place for me including Auburn, GA to pick up the car. Mike (WCG) for passing the car on for my care and safekeeping. Tom who did a great job sympathetically touching up some of the paint that wasn't original, and some that was, but made it all look great. And Ramair for being my shrink and adviser through this quest. I'm a lucky man.

Very nice. Bob, keep an eye on that funky pot metal fuel fitting contraption on the timing cover. They were recalled because the nipples cracked and the entire contents of the fuel tank would then siphon out under your hot engine.

(yes, I said nipples cracked...hee hee hee)
