Default transmission oil seal

Has anyone here ever replaced the front oil seal on the Hydramatic while in the car. Or is this one where it is better to pull the engine and transmission and separate and change it? Don't have a car lift.

Even without knowing WHAT is leaking, engine and Hydro must be separated (pull engine or trans or both). R & R of an early HydraMatic is quite nasty- usually better off pulling engine/trans as a unit.
Last summer (for reasons I won't try to explain here) I pulled the HydroStick out the bottom of my GMC to repair it- nasty, nasty. I did come up with one improvement to the process (posted a picture somewhere in this forum)- I machined the flywheel for a square-section O-ring in place of the paper gasket, which made re-installing the hydro MUCH smoother.

Hi Steve, No mine doesn't have the Park marked on the quadrant, it is the earlier type with park in the reverse position. John

Easy transmission to remove by itself.
