Need a pic of the 70-73 trunk lock assembly
I have repop tail panel and lock with extension. I need to know what the lock mount behind the panel looks like and if there is a gasket involved.

there is a gasket and a metal backing plate with 2 holes for 2 bolts with nuts..not certain if I posted some detail pics on my thread..I do know we had a thread and pics with the different lock pawls..the chrome lock pokes out the hole then the gasket on the inside and then the plate..bolt heads on the exterior..pawl inserts to trunk latch , etc..I hope this helps as no detail drawings in the 72 assembly manual

Thanks, we had a vendor of ours send a pic - it does indeed show just a simple backing plate.

The tail panel has flat top studs welded to it that go through to the back, then the rubber gasket. The lock itself has has "wings" on it that act as a thick washer with hole for the studs, and nuts. There are no loose bolts that go through the tail panel ( per se)

The "bolts" are studs and are part of the car/tailpanel. They are Not loose !!

This is what I ended up doing. Not being any sort of low production or high value as stock car, I modded the tail panel so the lock face sits flush. I did not like the idea of the lock sitting too far in and the key scraping the paint when turned.
I clamped the tail panel in the Bridgeport and used a swedge cutter to get to 0.812" Ø. I needed 0.841 or so, a brief touch of the rotary file did this. In the mean time I made a test backing plate. I am thinking of making a small laser cut run of these as the welded studs seem to all disappear over the years... I welded some gussets in the latch section of the trunk so access to the back two bolts is bad at best... Test fitted up. Will use some neoprene gasket and smear the outer section of the lock with sealant. |

Thats different. For security reasons GM put the nuts on the inside of the trunk. I hope your shaft to the mechanism is now long enough. I do like the idea of having the lock sit out further for the key reasons. I chose to use a remote for the trunk, and I have it hooked to my PDL remote , in my pocket, no keys touch my car.. Nice effort )

Shaft reaches with about 1/8" to spare. You would need to rip off the plastic filler panel the get to the nuts.

Great idea I hate the fact my panel has marks on it from keys
Would be nice to adapt this to my car when it's painted .....one day..... U gonna sell the adapter plate..... Any other modes to make this work on a stock panel.....love it.....
