Take a look, Its only my Guess, as I am NOT a 1970 guru like some of you are.. Thoughts? I was expecting the "E" to be on the same line as the rest.. Thanks, FB

Agree.

Mar. 31, 1970 build date, on dayshift.

Does that match the car's build date?

There should be a cast date on the rear end also that should precede the build date of the assembly.

On the center section - 2 or three digits only, Julian date.

I would say the stamped date is for when the axle was assembled. (after the cast date probably)
The cast date for when it was 'cast' ().

Never checked to see what time difference there may be in them.

Here's the cast date for Adrian's differential case.

Cast date will precede the assembly date hammered in the axle tube.

My case has an additional number 8421 hammered in that I've never seen before.

If you look closer to the spring perch, you'll probably find a lone "D" as well.
