Default My SD455 got nominated for Muscle Machine of the Year

I was quite shocked today when I got my Hemmings Muscle Machines and saw it. So if any Pontiac fans out there feel like voting for Enrico Stein's car, he, his wife Lenora, and I will be honored to have your vote.

Just go to www.hemmings.com/mmoy to vote.

The thread on the car is here: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=736345

As you may know, I owned a 1974 Trans SD-455 4-speed that I turned into the H-O Racing NHRA SS/KA National Record holder in 1977.

John Clegg bought one like yours, 1973 Formula SD-455, and brought it to the Winternationals in Pomona in Feb 1974, where I met him. We are good friends to this day.

My 1974 is now owned by J.B. Clegg, John's son and John still has his 1973. J.B.'s car has gone 9.80 1/4-mile under the "new" SS rules. John's is now building Bonneville and standing 1-mile cars.

Yours is a really nice one!

Very cool Craig! What color was Jon's 73 Formula? You may not know it but the sister car to my car (the other Formula SD sold at Suburban Pontiac under the same extorted allocation) was an Admiralty Blue, four speed car. It was a race car for many years and was eventually reunited with its original engine and restored.

By "extorted" I mean the great story that Enrico told me how he basically kicked down the door of the Pontiac zone rep and asked him in true "New York style" why they weren't building his SD455? At 6'8' 285 lbs, he was not a guy to mess with then...or now!

Here is him on the day he took delivery, along with his equally tall bride, Lenora. And today. He and Lenora are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary by reuniting with the car at the MCACN show in November in Chicago. It will be quite the event!

njsteve:

John Clegg's 1973 Formula SD-455 was Buccaneer Red, same as my 1974 T/A. He lives in Victoria, TX, but I don't know what dealership he bought his from.
