1965 Front bench seat - Help please
I am really wanting to go the route of a front split bench seat for my GTO. I am not having luck finding 1964 - 1965 models but a couple 66-67 Chevelle models (no headrest), even more 69-72 Chevelle models (with headrests)
Anyone know how compatible look/size wise different years are? I don't mind modifying seat tracks but I would like to use GTO upholstery. I absolutely love the look of the chrome trim on my bucket seats, and would like to carry this over to the bench seat if possible. The Chevelle bench seats I find, look rather plain. Problem is I can't seem to find a picture - side shot of a bench GTO seat to confirm this is how they are supposed to look. Can someone post a picture (side shot) of a bench and give me some insight on my questions, please Thanks in advance Sent from my SM-T590 using Tapatalk |

‘64-‘65 bench seat GTO’s are like Bigfoot - rumored to exist, but nobody I know has ever seen one. From what I heard, they had tempest interiors since the Lemans/GTO one pictured is for buckets only. I imagine you can have something custom made, but it’ll cost ya. As for a side view - Some folks on here have ‘64-‘65 bench seat Tempests - they can point you in the right direction.
Note that the seats in your picture are done incorrectly.

Which seats ? My white buckets ? Or my rear seats ?
I have heard there are a curtain direction to the pattern. I have only had this car for a summer so I am still getting used to it. Thanks Sent from my SM-T590 using Tapatalk |

Thanks Chris
I guess my seat are on the wrong sides, I am going to see if it was an error or maybe the PO did it that way when he had them recovered because of structural issues in the seat. The pictures you supplied definatly looks plain, I wonder if there is a way to transfer the chome hinges over ? Sent from my SM-T590 using Tapatalk |

Use 60sstuff's 1st picture as a guide. (black interior) Hopefully just your front seats are reversed.

Yeah, but if the fronts are reversed you can't fix it by just swapping the seats around, you have to actually remove the seat covers and swap them from one seat to the other. If you just swap the seat locations, they will hinge to the outside instead of the inside like they should. These seats don't hinge straight ahead, the hinge points are slightly offset so they tilt slightly inboard as they go forward. A simple but not easy fix.

We put a '68 split bench in our '66. We just needed a seat because the original one was completely toasted. It is slightly different (a little wider and taller) than our '66 bench but the tracks bolted right into the same holes. I believe that any bench from 1964 to 1972 can be used, For us, I'm fixing up the '66 bench so that we can get readily available covers from PUI, the only company that makes them.
The chrome trim thing baffles me. I've seen it on some cars and others don't have it. Not sure if it's GTO/Tempest related or not. https://lancaster.craigslist.org/pts...765754534.html |

it would be really easy to add the chrome trim to later seats- you just need to add a little mounting tab to the side of the upper cushion/seatback frames while they are apart. use the chrome trim
to mock up the screw locations while they are stripped. I would not recommend PUI for any of the covers that use the heat sealed pleats/designs... unless you are building the car to flip and just want the cheapest. Much better to go with legendary, a much better quality cover.

Your seats are probably on the correct side. Your covers are on the wrong seats. Seat adjusted is on the door side, both dr. and pass. seat.
"Bill"! Legendary interiors are superior to PUI. |

Just pull the seats and swap the tracks so the that the seat cover patterns match the back seat.

I wish that Legendary made the seat covers for my Tempest Custom bench seat.
I received the colour sample from PUI and I'm not too excited about it. But I have to say that at least PUI makes them available. Otherwise, I'd have to get material from SMS and get an upholstery shop to make them up. Pricy! |

Here's the thread that we had going on fixing up our benches. I hope it helps. My bench restoration is ongoing. Christmas preparations have sidelined the project for now.
http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=823730 As far as upholstery, there is an excellent video from PUI that shows the installation process. https://youtu.be/FljmCEg6WVc |
