The shade of red on the dash and consoles isn't correct for 74. They were originally a darker shade. The original all-red interior for 74 was actually 2-tone.

A question on the Red rear console. Wasn't the ash tray/seat belt holder hard plastic piece always black regardless of the vinyls color? Not recalling seeing many rear consoles in other than black interior trim.

I cant say what made it one or the other, but I have had numerous 74 t/a's over the years with red interior and have had some with this color and some with the darker combo. I currently have an unrestored (other than a repaint that I did a few years back) and it has this really bright red interior in it. (however as we all know, they should all have black columns and steering wheels)

There's lot of choices out there, all I would say is to go with 2 mufflers, let that beast breathe!!

I would go transverse and I would NOT use Gardner unless it's a trailer queen and you don't care about performance or for that matter fit.

It's kind of like Norwood and his distain for a certain stripe company! LOL

Certainly will. If he goes with a Gardner much more too. I have, love, and recommend. But I understand that The Parts Place has a $400 alternative. I'm hoping we hear some feedback on theirs one of these days too.

When I purchased my 73 SD it had the X pipe and two megaflow mufflers with the chrome tips in its stock place.I Hated the look of the car from the back, you could see
the two mufflers and they had a very bad drone. I had Russ at Mesa Muffler (great Guy)
in Costa Mesa Ca. Install a oem style transverse muffler and use all the existing parts
The car seems to run just as good, no drone and looks great.
On my 70 T/A 400 stroker 230 236 114 HY Roller, Cliffs Qjet and Ram air manifolds.I used
the complete Pypes transverse system. I love it on this car,but it is a bit of a Hot Rod.
It is loud at idle and low part throttle but on the highway it is very quiet.

Question.......
Those of you who are rebuilding SD455 engines during a resto project re-using the old original cam or switching to a new profile?

That's news to me. If there were 2 different interior reds for the dash and consoles in 74, then shouldn't there have been 2 different cowl tag codes for red interior? I'm certainly no expert, but I haven't seen a 74 TA with the bright red dash and console that hadn't been painted by someone in the past. Every one I've seen had the darker red dash and console with the bright red seats, door panels, etc.

I cant explain it, but have definitely witnessed it. as for the cowl tag code, I never bothered to look. almost makes me want to go out to my garage and lift the hood on mine and see what the code is. maybe tomorrow.
