There are also races this week at Maple Grove & in Great Bend, Kansas.

https://maplegroveraceway.com/wp-con...LODRS_20-1.pdf

https://www.srcadragstrip.com/division-5-race

So, with all these races, there should be quite a few Pontiacs in action this week.

Default Southern Nats/Gator Nats

" Southernatiinals is this weekend in Gainesville "

I wondered about this, after i found that the race at Gainesville was being called the Gator Nats, NOT the Southern Nats.

This has been a really strange year, in lots of ways. But, maybe this will explain the Southern Nats/Gator Nats deal. If what this guy posted is correct, the Sportsman classes are running in the Southern Nats, while the Pros are running in the Gator Nats, with both races the same weekend at the same track. Don't have a clue why. Anybody know ?

http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...93&postcount=6

Here's further evidence.

http://www.nhraracer.com/content/gen...933&zoneid=175

Wondering if DRC will post the Sportsman category results as being from the Southern Nats, while posting the pro category results as being from the Gators.

Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series categories scheduled to compete at the NHRA Southern Nationals at Commerce, Georgia will now take place as part of the completion of the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway on September 25-27.
When the Gatornational was cancel the Pro's did not get to run but the sportsman did.

Just watched Stock Q-1. Saw 3 Pontiac powered cars. Randi Lyn Shipp was #11, with a 10.607, which is .943 under her D/SA index.

Chris Stephenson made a pass, in his '68 Bird, as did Brad Koivisto, in his '74 Ventura.

Only caught the tail end of S/ST. Saw Laurel Morris make a pass.

In SS, Don Kennedy ran a 9.079, which was 1.021 under, & good enuff for #3. I think that's the best ET I've ever seen from that car. Not absolutely certain. Bill Rink & Casey McCarty are also on the list.

Just watched Stock Q-2. Bill Foder joined the party, with his 455 powered '72 T/A.

As many here know, this is the car that Lee Bannister raced, for several years. Lee won quite a few races, including 2 nat events one season. Lee ran it with a Formy hood. Bill runs a T/A hood/shaker.

So far, we have two 1st gen Birds, one 2nd gen, & a '74 X-body, Pontiac powered Stockers.

In SS Q-2, Stacy McCarty made a pass, in what was listed as a 2000 Grand Am, with 428 Pontiac power.

It was running GT/FA. Ran a 9.383, which was .867 under, & good enuff for #28, at the time.

Don Kennedy remained in #3 position.

So, I suppose we have 4 Stockers & 4 Super Stockers at this race, with Pontiac power. Not sure how many S/G & S/ST cars. Didn't watch all their sessions.

After qualifying, they finished the Bowling Green race. Randi Lyn Shipp lost the semi-final, in Stock.

But, hey, since there were only 3 cars left, I suppose we could say she got 3rd place.

Here's the Stock & SS DRC Q-lists for Thurs.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r=100#indextop

On the SS list, Stacy McCarty is at the bottom, with a DQ. Don't know what's up with that.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r=100#indextop

Here's the semi of the div 3-3 race, which Randi Lyn was in. Her opponent ran exactly on his dial.

Here's a link for today's DRTV coverage of the div 3 race.

And here's a link for today's DRTV coverage of the div 5 race, in Great Bend, Kansas.

They also just posted a link for D1TV coverage of the div 1 Maple Grove race.

Randi Lyn, Brad Koivisto, & Bill Foder all survived Stock E-1.

Brad had a heads-up run. He turned an 11.028, for the win. That's the quickest time I've ever seen, for a '74 Ventura Stocker !

No Pontiac powered cars in Stock Q-1 @ Gainesville. Only 29 cars on the list.

Caught a little bit of Stock Q-1 @ Maple Grove. Billy Nees is there with his '79 301 powered Lemans. Lauren Kanuik also made a pass in the former Don Himes 400 powered '77 GP.

In SS E-1, Bill Rink got a single. Don Kennedy lost a double breakout race. He ran a 9.099.

So, we got 3 Stockers & 1 Super Stocker still in competition, in race 1, of this doubleheader.

Saw some qualifying from Great Bend.

The Pontiac powered Stockers I saw were Norman Warling's '62 Cat & Dwaine Davis' '74 Formy.

The SS cars were Carroll Warling's '74 GTO & Scott Burton's '91 bird.

Appeared that they are having a Stock/SS combo race today. Norman, Dwaine, & Scott survived round 1.

@ the div 1 race, they're finishing the Sports Nats race from Epping.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2020#indextop

They just had the quarter-final round of SS, with 6 cars left. Bill Kennedy won his race. So, he's in the semi, with 3 cars left. 3rd place is the worst he can do.

Trying to keep up with races in div 1, 3, & 5.

@ the div 3 race, Bill Rink just won another round of SS, on his opponent's red light.

@ the div 1 race, Bill Kennedy got the bye into the final. So, R/U is now the worst he can do. Pulling for a win !

Bill left too soon & had to settle for R/U.

@ the div 3 race, all Stock & SS Pontiacs are out.

They all get another chance in race #2.

@ Gainesville, Jimmy Daniel won his 1st round of S/ST.

Just noticed that Norman Warling is now running the 421 engine, in his '62 cat. Running E/SA. Ran 11.75. Guessing that the Warling bros will squeeze quite a bit more out of it, as time goes by.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r=100#indextop

Wonder when was the last time a 421 Pontiac powered Stocker made a pass, in competition ?

Jimmy Daniel won S/ST E-2.

To me, it's real sad that there is not a single Pontiac powered car in Stock or SS. In the past, there have been some famous Pontiac powered cars in both of those classes, at the Gators.

Haven't watched much today. Just looked at DRTV & saw that Don Kennedy was #1 qualifier, in SS, with a 9.042. He had the only ET which was a sec under.

Don also won his 1st round. Bill Rink broke, right off the line.

Stacey McCarty was #7, with a 9.307, but lost in the 1st round.

Div 1 race rained out today.

@ Gainesville, Jimmy Daniel won S/ST E-3. So, that puts him in the semi-final, with 4 cars left.

Dwaine Davis & Norman Warling still have the only 2 Pontiac powered Stockers on the list.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop

Scott Burton & Carroll Warling are driving the Pontiac powered Super Stockers.
