Hey I'm a newbie here, but not to wrenchin.

Bought a '96 Geand Am GT for a commuter car and ranit out of gas on the freeway (damn GM sending units!!!)

Flat towed it to the gas station, in the process the factory tow loop under the engine ripped off and the tow hook grabbed the hard tranny line and ripped it out of the tranny. Had it towed to a shop I trust and it they're saying it needs to be re-cored for $1500. F that.

My question is what tranny is it that I have in this car (it's an auto) and what is/was the year span of this tranny and what other models did this tranny come in (B'ville, etc.) I'm gonna get a new used one and am gonna call pick-n-pulls to see what they have. TIA!!

Have the tow company pay for it.

Baretta tranny should be the same.

The trans is a 4t60-e if its a 3.1
Any newer 3.1 should have the same trans .Grand Am or eqivalant or a bigger w-body(Monte Carlo, Gp,Cutlass)will have it also.
