Default '95 Formula Performance

I was searching the net for some performance stats on the '95 Formula. I came across the following:

1995 Pontiac Firebird Formula 6.7 15.1
1995 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 5.6 14.0

The first number is supposed to be 0-60 times, and the second number is 1/4 mile times.

Now, first of all the Formula's 1/4 time seems inaccurate to me...15 seconds for an LT1 Bird?

Secondly, the Formula and the TA have the same motor, so why would there be such a difference in performance?

I suspect the data is just flawed, but am wondering if anyone can confirm or deny that, and maybe even lead me to an accurate source of data?

If I recall, a '96 WS6 Formula ran a 14.1 or a 14.6.

Car and Driver compared the SS Camaro, WS6 and the Cobra Mustang. I'll see if I can find a scan of it.

FWIW, my girlfriend has a bone stock, tired, (burns some oil, blowby) '94 T/A with 155,000 on it and tonight we took it to the track. It was her first time so she was slow with her 60's, but I gave it the last run of the night and pulled a 14.3@98 in it. It's an auto with 3.23's. 2.1 60 foot in it.

my stock 93 Formula hardtop with 14,000 miles and 3.23 ran 13.9
my stock 95 Formula ragtop with 3.23 and 4,000 miles ran 14.6
same car with 15,000 miles ran 14.1. oth cars automatic with no mods and original tires.
Trans Am's are a few pounds heavier than a Formula of similar equipment = slower.
At the track the F-body guys all pull out their spare tires, jacks and back seats to gain a tenth or two.

I don't know why your hunting data Bull - but your 95 with 3.23 or 3.73 and a decent stall converter (I think yours is an A4) will be a low 13 second car. Drag radials, some suspension mods, a programmer, exhaust, etc will all make it quicker.

The stock magazine and book stats seemed off to my real cars at a real track.

I ran a 14.2 in my Z28 with nothing more than a K&N panel filter and some tired Goodyears-they sounded cool when it would bark them as the car shifted.

My old '95 Z-28 M6 loaded with leather interior ran a 14.1@101 with only a stock replacement K&N filter.

The reason why I am fishing for info is because I can not believe the figures I posted above, which I found on the net. First, my Formula does not at all feel like a 15 second car. And second, I see no reason why the TA would be a full second quicker than the Formula, a lighter car with the same engine.

Based on what you all are telling me, the figure must just be bogus.

LT1s are pretty impressive even in stock form...I have developed a whole new appreciation for them since buying my '95.

Yeah, the formula should be a little faster. I read somewhere once that the weight savings were close to 100lbs (that'd only be worth about a 10th in the 1/4 though)

So did I when I bought my first! I have one again now - they are great!

Wait until you drive an LS-1 !

A stock '00 Formula was way faster than my 95 with a convertor and ram air, programming etc

I lked it so much I bought it and sold the 95 !
The LS-1 responded to bolt on's better and has a wider pull range
try one, you'll see

I agree!

My bone stock 99 SS Vert went 13.40 @ 104.6 in the heat.
I've seen many LS1's with very minor bolt ons go low 12's to high 11's.

The LT1 can be very quick too, just watch out for that Opti.

yes sir!

The LT-1 had weak points like the opti and heads and lower end but all can be modded reasonably enough or just really good heads and cam with exhaust, gears and suspensin will make a low 12-high 11 sec LT-1
