Default 1966 OHC sprint rebuild

I just bought a 66' Lemans sprint the car will be here next week. It dose not have the orig engine but I found one here in Ohio its a complete 66' non sprint OHC. I have a 4-barrel intake and manifold for it already. I dont know a lot about these engine's far as having them rebuilt or where to buy the parts. Im going to have the engine rebuilt so my questions are what should be done to the block, head, ect and where can I find the correct sprint Cam,springs, and basically all the rebuild parts needed any help would be great.

Nice find on the car and the Sprint rebuild. You'll need to post some pictures.

As for the rebuild I too would love to pin someone down on a shop to do a rebuild. Jerry Woodland in Utah would be a go to guy for your engine parts and some have sent there heads to him for a rebuild. He then sends it to a shop and he gets a cut. If do not have a carb for it that might be a tough find. There are a few 68' QJets on eBay buy they are $500 dollar smackers and have not sold. Other place to go to for parts like gaskets sets would be Kanter and Egge. I think Egge may have some pistons which are tough to get OE sizes in the OHC. Make sure to hang onto the starter nose for the OHC engine as it is unique to this motor. Webrodder http://www.webrodder.com/ has an article on how to rebuild the Pon tiac OHC.

I will search for the post for engine rebuilds and post it.

Best of luck,

Was the car located in Ohio? Or did you only locate the motor in Ohio? I sold a 1BBL Feb built OHC-6 to guy in Jackson, OH a while back.

Bought the car out of Hemmings magazine and is located in WY. The OHC engine is in Columbus. I'll check out Wasserbeck's.

I'd like the engine to be rebuilt to Sprint specs cam, springs, ect no porting. Also can any Pontiac Quadrajet be used on the OHC 4-barrel intake? Is the base plate different? I only ask because if I find one I can use until a correct date coded carb is found.

You can use different carbs but the problem is the fuel lines and throttle linkage.

Nice! Looking forward to the pics. Make sure to hang onto every nut and bolt as you'll need them for this motor.

I got the car today it's pretty much what I thought it would be really solid floors and solid around all the windows. Frame is in great shape. I was happy to see it still has the factory posi rear end. I'll post some pics it was getting dark when I got it home.

The OHC engine uses a Q jet that has a fuel inlet to the right instead of dead on like a Pontiac V-8. My memory tells me chevy Q jets just are to the rt also.

Hey you are correct. The only thing that would be of concern would be the air cleaner and if the orientation would be correct. Using a cap and filter would eliminate that concern but it would take away from originality.

ETA: He would definitely need to go with an electric choke as the OE divorce choke may not work. On a positive note he might be able to have access to more available idle stop solenoids rather than the OHC.
